The waiter was extremely rude ! We just asked if they had lunch buffet available and the waiter responded very rudely saying they only serve set menus! … we would have like to be greeted with a more friendly manner. Regardless of any ethic background customers deserve to be treated with respect… we enjoyed our lunch buffet at an Indian restaurant just down the road instead.
Decent food if you’re craving Indian, but the taste is more westernized. Also later learned of the restaurant and founders (Lakireddy) troubled history ?
I would say the service was mediocre but the food was tasty!! Portions were decent as well. I don’t have anything ti compare ti in the area as I was just visiting, but the atmosphere is very casual. It’s also a large space so it would be able ti accommodate groups.
Ordered take out for dinner. We got the Aloo Gobi, Paneer Masala and Mix Vegetable Karahi along with a few naans. Also got the Vegetable Biryani and Onion Pakoras. The curries were good. Not too spicy. The mix veg and paneer masala were good. Skip the Aloo Gobi since it has the same base as the paneer masala. The veg biryani was a bit bland for out taste. But the portions are great! The onion pakoras were the best of the lot!
I have Eaten here on and off !To put it In a Nutshell - I'd have to say " Authentic South Indian Fare in A UNIQUE SETTING " !!! The Dhaal-Sambar is especially Good as is the Rasam / Pepperwater Soup. I also had them via Doordash. Good Coconut Chutney !!! I usually get ' The Dosa Combination ' which is a S.Indian Crepewith Masala Potato Onion Filling ( think it missed Curry Leaves that one can buy locally @ Indian Groceries. They do ' Enhance Flavor '. Coffee & Service were good as well ......It's A ' Heritage Building on Shattuck w/High Ceilings and I hear they have A Bar - I guess Indian Beers too !!!! Support Them Through The " PANDEMIC " - Old Berkeley Institution!! Used to have ' Live Indian Classical Music Nitely ' across the Street - back in the day !!!!
the food was really good even though the restaurant was empty. We were the only customers
A shame that this restaurant isn't more heavily patronized. The menu is traditional a la carte or Thali and all of it is perfectly seasoned. I just hope they can stay in business.
The dosas, chutneys, and sambhar are amazing. My go-to any time I’m in the area! For those who have memories of Pasand in Berkeley, this is it!
This place is such a disappointment! Worst service I have had in Berkeley. The waiter is so rude and for everything I asked he said no without any explanation or apologies. The quantity was so small and I asked him why that is and he turned it down. My friends and I all had really bad experience! We ordered Onion Rava Masala dosa and Mysore Masala Dosa. This is definitely the last time I am coming to this place.Everything made sense when I read up about the history of this place. It’s owned by Laki Reddy (Google him).
Good food and ambience. Very good service and friendly staff.
