It’s a fun place. Cafeteria style in the sense you line up and order your food, get it on a tray, and move in down toward the register to pay. Nice tall ceilings, lots of bar/table seating, and even outdoor seating. I’ve been to the same restaurant in Honolulu. The udon noodles are very good. Soft and tasty. I prefer the Tonkatsu broth but this visit I had the Curry Nikutama. Its very thick. You get sweet shredded pork and an egg. Also green onion and crinkly toppings. Also had fish, squid, and zucchini tempura.Everything tasted good but I agree with other reviewers that the food is not hot. In fact, some of the tempura was cool/cold. Even the noodle soup was warm at best. Normally I’m used to piping hot. I really suggest they heat up the food.
Kake is great, but everything I've had is so good!
A good bowl of Ramen for a reasonable price. It can get busy but the cafeteria style service means a lot of people can be served quickly. It’s not as good as the Honolulu location, but it’s still a good value.
I’ve been to a couple branches. This one, the location is great and there’s a lot of seating. Pricing is so good for the amount and food is delicious. However at other locations, there are sometimes more tempura options. I would still come here often. We went on a Thursday night and didn’t wait long.
The udon was very smooth. Great texture. loved the tempura options. Staff were wearing masks.... Except one. Felt safe
The broth was super brothyand the chicken was very chickeny. Chickeny in a good way. The udon was so udony and the furnishing was furnished. The process was quick and we were eating within minutes. When we went, we had to show proof of vaccinations so make sure you have that ready on hand. Finding parking might take a while but you’ll find one eventually. Would recommend the place to anyone who wants tasty udon ^.^
A good japanese-style udon place. Limited options, but there's a vegan udon! (Psst... Probably the best udon broth out there!)Other udon broths were underwhelming.Tempura options are good, potato croquette is a must-try.Matcha drink is also a great addition to the meal.If you don't mind lining up, ordering, and looking for a seat,OR, if you want to have a no-fuss quick bite, this is the place!
An under $10 meal in Berkeley that can’t be beat. Authentically tasting udon and tempura are served up cafeteria-style in this airy space with outdoor seating. If ordering the kake udon, make sure to get all three add-ons: scallions, tempura flakes and ginger. Look for the tempura coming straight out of the fryer for a light and delicate crunch.
The TO GO line is at the corner right of the entrance.
I’ve been to the one in San Francisco and this one. The udon is so good and especially all the side food too. I recommend getting some udon obviously and the potatoe croquet.
