Five stars for those potato puffs!!I was getting ready to move and had never gotten around to giving them a try, despite having heard about how good they were in the past.I decided to stop by the week before I'd be leaving so that I could finally try them - I definitely wasn't disappointed!!I wish I had gotten them sooner now!They had a mobile app with discounts and rewards available on it that made it very quick and easy to place an order for the potato puffs - they were ready within a few minutes of placing it and was able to walk right in and pick them up.It's a very tiny establishment, clearly designed primarily for take-out, as there were just a few outdoor patio tables.The service was very quick and efficient, however, so no issues there!As for the potato puffs themselves, they were beautifully presented in a little hexagonal (I think) shaped box that was very aesthetic for photo-taking!The potato puffs inside were steamy hot and came with some dipping sauce (I'm not quite sure what exactly type of sauce) that tasted great with them.The puffs have a perfectly crispy and crunchy exterior as you bite into them, and then a gooey, mushy interior that just melts into your mouth and tastes like the riches, creamiest bite of mashed potatoes ever!The slight tang from the sauce that you can dip them into was a great accompaniment to the textures and flavors of the puffs!I haven't tried other food items from Gregoire's, but if they're anything like the potato puffs, they're probably delicious as well!Definitely an incredibly delectable and delightful appetizer snack.I'd get them again in a heartbeat, and I highly recommend!
I’m not reviewing this place because it needs it, I’m reviewing it so people know I have good taste. I miss growing up near here so much. The love and care put into the food here helped shaped my eating habits/taste in my later teens. Also got me over food issues and initiate interest in cooking! Gregoire himself showed up often back when I frequented pre-pandemic but positive the quality has been maintained. Once you experience that kind of intentional menu, you can never go back.
I really enjoyed the food here! A local in the area recommended this place since they constantly have a rotating menu. You never know what they will have! They have a self-ordering kiosk window or you can order online for pickup/delivery.I lived for the Steak and Brie sandwich! Creamy rich brie cheese melted on top of tender steak and a sharp dijon mustard sauce. This was incredible! Three of my favorite ingredients packed inside of some good quality bread. Definitely worth the $16+ spent.My favorite though? DEFINITELY the potato puffs! They were so tender and delicate. The perfect mashed potato texture in the center. Dunk it in the yellow curry sauce? HEAVENLY! My only critique is that they're really heavily salted. I'm curious to try the different flavors of potato puffs in the future.
You order ahead over the phone and pick your food up there. Street parking is available. You can see the cooks through the window. The place is only a kitchen.You are asked to pay a tip, although the only service is handing you the bag. I wish they would just pay their employees already.The packaging of the food looks very professional. The food is plated on paper into custom-printed orange cardboard boxes. I think it tasted good, although driving it home and re-plating it did make it suffer a bit. We microwaved the soup but it was quite tasty.The desert raspberry tarte in the prix-fixe menu was also good.
Great place for take out. The fried chicken sandwich is my favorite thing on the menu. The potato puffs are crispy and fluffy on the inside. Amazing flavor.

It's a trap! The food: great, the people: (usually) not rudeBut I've had an unending struggle with ordering takeout from this place, all on account of the lure of a free promotional offer.Every time I order takeout, they say the promotional offer is applied yet when I arrive, they claim they never got the order. Even after calling ahead, they did not allow me to use the promotional offer because the system "wasn't working." It's not that hard to just not charge for potato puffs.Each time they tell me they'll put the promotional offer back, and each time it doesn't work. It's just another system glitch for them, but for me it's an inconvenience in a busy day when I just wanted a fun and easy lunch.I'm writing this while standing outside, waiting 30 minutes for an order I placed in advance.Update: the food was somehow very cold even after waiting for itSave yourself the hassle and pick a different location.
There's something about Gregoire Potato Puffs that is... just a touch magical. They're fantastic little bites of carbohydrates, but hit the spot in a way that's unparalleled by most other combinations of carbohydrates! It's been years since I lived in Berkeley full-time, but I often regret not going to Gregoire more often when I lived < 200 yards away for a year.If you haven't been to the restaurant yet, the main thing to note is that there isn't a ton of seating nearby, and you may be waiting for a bit, so I'd recommend calling ahead and ordering if you can -- at peak times you can end up with a good wait, so get ahead of it if at all possible. Also, during my last visit during Pandemic times, they did have the few outdoor tables available, but even those were getting full during non- busy times, so be prepared to take your fantastic potato puffs elsewhere to enjoy them.Overall -- just try it! Get some Gregoire Potato Puffs. I don't think you'll regret it!
Unfortunately Gregoire has fallen in quality over the years. Their potato puffs and rotating menu were the highlight of busy weeks as a student, but after returning years later, it seems like their quality control hasn’t kept up. I ordered a fish sandwich in laffa and the wrap came out soggy and the puffs overly dense.
We love Grégoire! Chicken sandwich is ALWAYS perfection!!! My toddler and baby LOVE the potato puffs (let's be real, who doesn't?!). Called in an order and it was ready really quickly! Service is wonderful! Minimal seating available but always always worth the trip!!
