We were there on 4th of July. I found this place a real fun place. I like the layout of the restaurant very appealing. I am sure that this is generally a crowded place, haven't it is right at the center of Berkeley downtown and walking distance to a BART station. I was able to find parking (that too free, guess 4th July perks ?) close to the restaurant. One USP was the "Group Cocktail". Any Cocktail has a single drink price and a group Cocktail price (3 to 4 times of single Cocktail). Group Cocktails are about double (lil less than double) the price of a single Cocktail drink. So, it was a no brainer for us to go for the group Cocktails!Food was fresh and quite delicious. I'll be posting some pics as well. I interesting observation, there were lots of take out orders and around 6, finding a place to sit without reservation was tough. So, this is a popular place and localities seems to be liking the food and the place! They also have a fully stocked bar with a huge scotch/bourbon collection. I'll be back to try their sampler soon.Price is very reasonable. This was my 3rd visit to a Berkley Shattuck street restaurant during the last 1 week and so far, this ranks #1.
We got the fig feta burger, classic Eureka burger, and grilled chicken nachos. Grilled chicken nachos were really good! Eureka burger was alright. Side of honey cinnamon potato fries was pretty good (kinda tasted like mini churros), but spicy green beans were too spicy. Would have preferred completely non-spicy.Fig marmalade was much less pronounced than last time I got it in the feta fig burger, which was a good thing for me. I don’t like sweets in my salty. The melted goat cheese went well with the burger, and the beef itself was fantastic. Would recommend medium rare. This place was busy when we went, but the service was great and communicative.
If you like waiting an hour and a half for a table when you were quoted 15 minutes - this is the place for you! There were TONS of empty tables but it was excuse after excuse as to why we couldn’t be seated. Stay home. Order pizza or something.
A horrible experience. What was suppose to be great food experience, fun libations and relaxation prior to a concert; turned into a maddening & frustrating experience. This rude and arrogant general manager, Carlie needs retraining and an crash course of customer service and communication. Oh and a side order of humility. My wife (who happens to have been a national trainer for one of the fasted growing restaurants of similar stature, for years) and I arrived at Eureka during the off hour. There were at least seven employees milling around the restaurant with four tables filled. Our server slapped down menus, coming back to take our meals and drink orders. I ordered the western burger, fries and a beer on tap. My wife, mac&cheese balls and a margarita. We were not asked if we wanted water. We sat. We sat longer. At this point a young man came in with a resume and sat down at a far table and waited for the GM. We could hear this conversation. It turns out the bartender & GM are one in the same. We had now reached about 10 to 15 minutes. The bartender/GM goes to the far table and begins to interview the young man. Then she takes her second interview; a young woman. NO BEER OR DRINK FOR US! We ask the seater and he says the bartender is unavailable at this time and has an interview!!! Ummmm?? Was the GM so clueless that she does not take care of her tickets first. Finally she is done and goes behind the bar. The server reminds her of our drinks Nothing. Out they come with someone else that came later's drinks...then another. My wife steps up to the bar to speak with her and the communication was elementary. We suddenly get our food, water but no drinks. Rather than apologize for the misstep our server slammed our water and food down. My burger was good (thus the 2 star review rather than 1), The fries were cold...when told, I did get hot fries but still no drinks), the mac & cheese balls had no flavor. We finally get our drinks basically thrown at us. At no point does the GM/bartender walk to the table and say hey, sorry. Nothing. No one acknowledged that an incompetence occured. Our bill was not compensated and our server treated us as if we had made the mistake not the restaurant. Mind you; I am not saying I think our bill should of been zeroed out!! I am saying a good restaurant recognizes their error, the bartender/GM would come out and said, "sorry I messed that up.", comp our drinks OR perhaps offer a dessert to make up for their mistake. When approached by myself this GM was quite rude and arrogant. No, sorry, no "let me attempt to change your opinion of us." NOTHING. Carly was simply put, SMUG! This restaurant is in a great location and has a good vibe inside. We were looking forward to its intriguing drink menu as it had been bragged about via a friend. But when your General manager/bartender has no time management skills, puts interviews before waiting on her customers, doesn't seem to cross train her employees or care about her own or their customer service skills...it is time to get back to basics!!! Greet me, seat me, get me my drinks in a timely fashion, serve hot food and be kind to me. Simple, basic, friendly ... this place is not that presently.
I’ve had one great experience here and then another not so good one -First time, we got the Fresno Fig Burger and Cowboy Burger; both were amazing.Second time, we got the steak salad, and the meat was pretty undercooked (I asked for medium rare). The service was also not great, and we felt like we were being ignored multiple times, even though it wasn’t busy when we went.
INNOVATIVE. DELICIOUS. LOCAL. Flew up for a day-trip business meeting with a couple colleagues & both of them had local friends who recommended Eureka. I’m so glad they did. We were greeted by friendly staff & fresh decor. Comfortable indoor & outdoor seating was available. They’re known for their whiskey selection but we came for the food — lunch edition. The menu is packed w good choices so we decided to order a number of items so decided to share all of our ordered items together. We landed on the crispy Brussel sprouts & mac-n-cheese balls for appetizers — both were phenomenal w the mac balls being memorable. The aged bone marrow burger was a game changer!! Also enjoyed the flavorful spicy chicken sandwich & fresh blackened salmon salad. If you’re in the Berkeley area, highly recommend Eureka for the food, atmosphere, service and extensive beverage selection.
Nice environment and great food. My only concern was about the service that took a little while to get stared. I was sit in the bar and all those bartenders were very focused on the drink orders.Any way, I am definitely will come back and give another try because it’s a very cool spot for friends, families, couples and etc …
Excellent napa chic sandwich. Lovely waitresses
They accommodated to my dietary restrictions and made me feel comfortable. The meals were superb
Love their burgers they are delicious! If you prefer your meat well done you have to mention that when you place your order, other than that it’s a very good burger. Also the truffle sauce that goes with your fries is amazing.
