My dad has always taught me if you want to not wait for dim sum to get there early. We arrived roughly 45 minutes after they opened on a Saturday and immediately got seated. My group and I marked the paper menu of the items we wanted to try and the food arrived rather quickly. The highlights were definitely the rice noodle rolls, the squid ink dumplings, the savory deep fried Chinese donut (try it with their congee as well), and obviously their bunny coconut jellies. Overall, some items were contemporary and some were staple dim sum food and I loved the mix between the two.
This a very good restaurant. Service is very good and the food is not just good is an experience. Some dishes better than others. Shrimp dumplings were excellent, chicken bao had too much ginger, hot and sour soup no very conventional bit excellent, the radish cakes were very good. The chicken casserole had too many tiny pieces of bones but good flavor. I highly recomend this restaurant
Chef Tony's is very mid. The service and and taste of the food is comparable to what you would have at other Dim Sums in the SGV. The only difference in the food is that Chef Tony's would essentially make the dish more presentable and appealing as well as add flourishes such as Truffle oil, Squid Ink and Gold Flakes. Though there is a difference in taste with these flourishes, its not really enough to revolutionize or change the dish. Chef Tony's also charges 30-40% more on each of its items than if you had tried any other Dim Sum place in the area. During my visit, I tried 10 of their dishes, both recommended and non-recommended, but none of them really stood out. I'm not sure if I had higher expectations based on its sales pitch and price, but Chef Tony's is a try once restaurant. If you're craving Dim Sum, Stick with your usual place. Also Quick tip, most of their Dim Sum Dishes comes in portions of four and average out to $7-11 per dish.
Non-traditional dim sum executed very well. Come here if you want some traditional dim sum plus classics updated with a modern twist. Customer service was excellent as well.
Better than Lunasia . The food are amazingly temperature controlled ( amazingly hot inside) which many dim sum places give you half hot dishes. The only complaint is their lack of automatic check in system where you can put your number and text you when your table ready .very tasty BBq pork rice noodle roll and shu mai and many more. Many dim sum have change to automatic ordering system but somehow carried out half hot dishes. Chef Tony dim sum dishes are out very fast.
It's ok. Dishes are beautifully presented and looks appetizing. All are well until the moment we all bite into a shrimp dumpling to find the filling cold, gray and raw.Service staff were immediately apologetic and acted quickly to replace all of our tableware with fresh clean ones. They told us they will make new one right away. They did remove the cost from the check. We waited until.all.other dishes were served and the check presented and paid for doggy bags on the table before the new replacement batch appeared. Guess what, same thing happened. Yup. Something is not working in that shiny new kitchen. And from reading other reviews, it's not an isolated incident.
My son wanted to try Chef Tony Dim Sum. Spent almost $100 for 3 people. The food was OK, the service was the worst. We only saw our server when she brought our food. Never came by to give us more tea & water. Spend ur money somewhere else
I've wanted to try his original location in old Town Pasadena but because of the pandemic I was not able to. I'm so glad that he has opened in this location. Food was yummy. The coconut jelly was so cute, in a rabbit shaped it was almost too cute to eat. It reminded me the almond jello with fruit cocktails I had as a kid. There were dumplings with squid ink or truffle to enhance normal dim sum flavors so much deeper. One of my favorites was the lava salted egg yolk bun. So good!
Absolutely delicious!! The finest dim sum ever…fit for the fanciest of hotels, but accessible to everyone!!
Fantastic new dim sum spot
