My slice (hot peppers and banana) was quite good but my family said their slices were "just fine". The real problem was in the operation. We ordered slices to save time and because the selection looked good. Bizarrely, they did not prioritize the slice orders, which simply need to be reheated. They had a rail of tickets ahead of ours (all phone orders as there is still no inside dining) and 4 people in the kitchen were making those pizzas first. We had to wait more than 15 minutes for our slices, which were already made! Completely non-sensical. The cashier seemed to care very little about what was going on.
If the business indicates it closes at 10 pm on Friday, it closes at 10 pm. Right?! No. Not Marley G’s. It usually closes earlier than claimed without notice. Last Friday, my family relied on their hours of operation and tried to place an order by calling and ordering online at 8:30 pm. The place was closed! We even drove by to check if we can place an order and wait outside, but it was closed. We were disappointed, hungry, and had to search for alternative options around. At least, make a note that the hours of operation may vary.
I come from a family of NYC pizza snobs and foodies, and they approve of this pizza.I like that they go lighter on the salt compared to other pizza, which often leaves you dehydrated. This will be my go-to from now on!
PIZZA BY THE SLICE! Alameda and the rest of the Bay Area doesn't have too many cheap eats, but Marley G's won't break wallet too much. $4.50 Chicken Pesto...Huge NY style slice covered in a vibrant and flavorful fresh pesto sauce, with generous amount of cheese, chicken, and sundried tomato. Lovely! $5 Sicilian...simple square slice of mozzarella, parmesan and red sauce. Pretty good, but I wouldn't order again because they got better slices.
Okay pizza but they close at 9 p.m. a pizza place closing at 9 p.m. you're asking to go out of business in my opinion. Their style of New York Pizza is fairly good as far as resembling the real thing, the only difference is their choice of cheese is kinda weird, I don't know why but the cheese stiffens/hardens up really quick. Sometimes the cheese breaks on your slice instead of having the melty quality good cheese is known for.
Pizza slices are usually tasty, but can be inconsistent. Sometimes pizza slices are a bit overcooked/charred on bottom. The next time it can be soggy/flimsy and soaking with oil to the point where you need two hands to hold it. Slightly cheaper than closest competitor.
Great pizza spot! Love the chicken pesto pizza! And my kids love the cheese! One slice goes a long way
This place has some novelty pizzas for those who are feeling adventurous! The slides they serve are in good size, it definitely filled me up. No dine in due to covid measures, but there are abundances of outdoor seating, right across the street. This place is the absolute best option to grab a quick bite in the area.
Been wanting to try this place for a while. They were kind enough to do a half and half so we got the white pizza (delish) and the eggplant (meh). The crust and amount of toppings were great! But it's slightly pricey.
Really enjoyed the slices at Marley G’s in Alameda especially the “Brooklyn” (an homage to L&B Spumoni Garden?) and the Sicilian which are both made on a really soft and fluffy base with a fine crumb (think Wonderbread, but in a good way) that reminds me of how Sicilian slices in NY used to be before Prince Street and others have made everyone start making those chewier more focaccia-ish square slices (which I also love, but are quite different and more bubbly/airy).It gets that layer of soft, dense dough right at the dough-sauce interface that was always my favorite part of the Sicilian slice when I was growing up.As far as NY/NJ-style pizza by the slice goes, this is up there in the Bay Area.
