This place beat our expectations by all means. Great outdoor location beside water, ambience and awesome selection of dishes. The hot clay pot, garlic noddles and salad was so good. Drinks are unique and service is top notch. Gina took care of our table and she was fabulous and helpful in guiding us through the menu. Kingsley was incredibly kind, informative and courteous to reserve a table for us. We will be back for many more dinners. Kendric is so caring and kind. This place is a hit among our family members.
Very pricey for gentrified Vietnamese food. The food was flavorful and filling, but I feel as though it lacked the authentic flavors of Vietnamese cuisine. The garlic noodles were more like spaghetti noodles and somewhat disappointing. Not pictured, garlic fries with jalapeños and the sampler plater, Lychee tea, and strawberry lemonade. The fries were delicious but overpriced for a muggle, could have had more garlic. The sampler plate, the curry potato lumpia tasted like its made from leftover curry. The spring rolls were acceptable, there was a chicken one and a shrimp one which they did remove the black line. The lychee tea is just lychee syrup and one lychee in there but it was more pleasant than the overly sugared strawberry lemonade that just tasted like some flat fanta with a lemon wedge.Over all the food acceptable but I feel like it's just too expensive for what was served.
So if you read my review on Star Pizza my friend and I had lunch a couple days after we did star and we chose Dragon Rouge. Completely different experience! It was lunch and because of the monetary size of the order they didn't charge the delivery fee. Simply wrote it off the bill.Second condiments were accounted for everything had required sauce chopsticks etc etc not like Star looking for blue cheese and celery sticks that didn't come with our chicken wings. But I digress. The hidden jewel in the menu is the Clay pot catfish. I don't even think it's listed as their favorite but if I was to have died that day I would have died a very very content person. It's not your typical catfish flavor. You would think it's a solid white meat like monk or cod but it is to die for and it should be on your on your weekend "hey let's go get a drink and munch" list. I'm not steering you wrong the catfish is off the We it also had steam dumplings (I'm still drooling over those), wings of course, calamari, salmon with coconut rice, very very good but in my humble opinion paled next to the catfish. The first time I went there I knew it was going to be a great place just by looking and liquor shelf. The right top shelf labels solid mix of medium and they pour a very good well. Of course the view it's wonderful but this place could be in a strip mall in BFEUSA and I would take a Greyhound bus to get the catfish!.
I guess it's okay if you want to eat American style Vietnamese food, otherwise this isn't somewhere where you'll get good actual Vietnamese food. And the food is too salty. Also the clay pot is a scam, the food clearly isn't cooked in the clay pot like you'd expect at any authentic location: not crispy rice layer, just a dump of wet rice in a bowl.
As you know if you've read my reviews, I am picky about my food and don't like to settle for less than great tasting dishes. Dragon Rouge always delivers. The staff is friendly, fast and attentive. They treat you as honored guests. The food tastes great and served hot and quickly. I only recently went back to indoor dining there because of their strict COVID safety protocols and cleaning, but their outdoor dining by the water is just as awesome. Just remember to bring a jacket although they have patio heaters. With a full bar, great appetizers and entrees and ambiance this place is great for date night or a family outing.
Had a wonderful waitress and as a first time customer was very impressed with their menu and customer service!!!! YumyumPrices were good, worth every penny ??
