Culinary Dropout is exactly the opposite of its name. The location is first and foremost a great spot. The space is huge - a private dining space, open kitchen concept where guests can see what's happening, two dining spaces: one with high bar chairs and the other more casual relax, and a space for a live DJ and your favorite bar games.Part of Fox Restaurant Concepts, this location of Culinary Dropout is everything family friendly and more. After a 12 hour road trip from California, this was where we decided to grab a bite, and it did not disappoint.Right off the bat, this place was crawling with people - literally it was full we had no option to sit anywhere but the bar. Not a bad second choice - a view of pretty much everything. It even took me awhile to realize there was alive DJ. The music that was being played was on point. Now for the food and service. The staff was very attentive to our needs and made sure our glasses were constantly full. As an appetizer we ordered the pork belly nachos. NOW, let me tell you this was a full on plate. We could not even finish this thing.Honestly everything looked good but we settled on the Katsu chicken sandwich. Also a great choice. We even split this and could not finish. Needless to say, their portion sizes here are very generous. With a name like Culinary Dropout you'd think that the food would be short of the name. Thank goodness this was a dropout and with good reason - amazing.
This place was such a great time. It was our first time visiting for my fiancees birthday and we had a blast!! The food was delicious, the service was good and the ambiance was unbeatable. It's slightly warm on the patio during monsoon season but not too bad. Definitely check it out!
This beautiful restaurant is perfectly priced and very affordable, especially if you want to bring home a bag. The portion size is just enough to fill you for dinner and please your belly in the middle of the night. Its my first time in Tucson, Arizona and this was my first meal. Of course with it being the holiday weekend after a certain time restaurants aren’t open. Culinary Dropout fed my family for the evening with no worries. The garlic bread with balsamic vinaigrette, prosciutto deviled eggs, & pretzels with melted cheese was spot on for appetizers. For dinner we enjoyed the Pub Burger, steak frites, prime rib with al ju sandwich, and finally Korean BBQ Skirt Steak. This spot is worth the trip.
Ordered fried fish which had more breading than fish. Service was slow. Waitress "rounded out" our change due after we gave her cash but shorted us. It wasn't much, but it's just the point: When someone gives you cash, you give them the EXACT AMOUNT DUE! How stupid because we leave very generous tips, but not this time!
Looks like it may be a fun place, though service was beyond poor. Our server was named Basil and needs to be retrained in customer service and just being a friendly person. We attempted to get his attention many times. He walk right past us and ignore us. Over and over! He wasn’t going to another table to offer assistance, Basil was going to just stand on the side and look at customers. When he finally decided to give attention, we asked for our check for the appetizer and departed. I called and spoke to a manager, Jennifer or Jessica. She was professional. I’m unsure we will give it a second chance.
Neat place, but nothing memorable about the salmon. My husband really wanted to try this place so I caved on Mother’s Day. My younger son loved the ping pong tables and games and they make real Mac n cheese. Win! Just opt for cheaper menu items—the costly items aren’t worth it. And my oldest didn’t care for the prime rib sandwich either. Hmmm well the fries are good. Dessert brownie yummie. But I’m not going back. Better meals to be had at local restaurants.
The food was fantastic! We shared the Korean steak. It tasted great and was cooked perfectly. It was a little expensive but was worth it for the generous portion and the high quality. We also had some antipasti and they were very good but the portions were kinda small for the price. The restaurant had a great atmosphere with large storefront windows into the kitchen so you could watch them prepare the food. It's a very open sort of warehouse feel with art and games and a nice bar. Would highly recommend.
Really cool place. It has a full restaurant, a patio that is covered, well ventilated and has heaters just in case. There is also a type of speak easy space to enjoy whiskey. One can see the kitchen from everywhere in the location. There is even an area to play ping pong, cornhole and others. Also liked that several of the areas have big sofas around a fire pit for big groups. The beer selection was not extensive but the beer was really good. The food was also excellent. Overall, really cool concept with good food, good ambience.
I've been here on two separate occasions and I enjoyed myself both times. The first time, my husband took me to celebrate my birthday. We ordered House Potato Chips, Turkey Pastrami Sandwich, and the Spicy Korean Skirtsteak. Since it was my birthday, the waiter gifted my husband and I a Monkey Bread Dessert with ice cream to share. I loved it! The second time I went, it was a work function. My co-workers and I ordered drinks, we hung out and talked around a bon fire, and got to play a few rounds of cornhole.
For starters I just want to say that I spoke very highly of this place after my first experience through a company meeting. This time, not so much. I ordered the same plate from my previous visit and it was not even remotely similar. The menu clearly said the Salmon comes with Brussel Sprouts, not the shavings and must I add they were burnt. There was barely any risotto on my plate, it was gone in 2 bites but I’m being charged for the full meal when I received Merely half. Then I get a free plate of brussel sprouts on the house (also burnt) and the dessert was also free. If it weren’t for the fact the drinks and dessert were decent I would’ve given 1 star. Also, don’t appreciate the managers attitude when I politely asked for straws since I had already asked 2 servers previously and still hadn’t received them. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
