The Chuckbox cooks hamburgers over real wood coals. That alone makes it worth the visit. The Burgers can be ordered from tiny to enormous. I had the Double Great Big One. This is a one pound monster. Absolutely delicious burgers that are fairly priced. This is a must-try place if you're at an ASU game.
Think fast and bring cash! Watch the cooks Charbroil your burger just the way you like it. Spicy? Teriyaki? What fixins? And add on freshly deep fried onion rings, fries, mushrooms, zucchini, whatever your tummy desires. Add other stuff at the condiment bar, but don’t even think about making a salad! Delicious!
Was in Tempe for a couple of days on business and some locals put us on to The Chuckbox for lunch. This place is a small hole in the wall in the heart of the ASU campus and the burgers were just flat out awesome. Burgers are cooked over a real fire and there are plenty of options to make your burger your way. This place was so good, we ate there two days in a row. First day, I kept it simple; bacon cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese and an order of fries...they nailed it. Second day, the Tijuana Torpedo with onion rings...now that hit the spot. If I am ever within 30 minutes of Tempe again, I am going back.

We went to The Chuck Box after walking around the ASU campus and reading the other reviews. It was AMAZING. Be prepared since this is a cash only establishment but the burgers were wonderful.
You can smell the deliciousness even before you enter this place. Once inside, welcome to heaven! If good burgers are your thing, you found your spot. Quality taste and absolutely amazing flavor. Place your order and watch the magic happen. Can’t wait to be back.
I read the great reviews about The Chuckbox, and figured that it was just another iconic burger joint that had non-iconic burgers. I waited in a long line for over 15-minutes, but in the end I was rewarded with a fantastic flavourful burger. It WAS an iconic burger - treat yourself to a double.
Still a good solid staple of tempe. Serving the same quality of these many years. Simple burgers by friendly college kids. You can definitely see the rise of price of beef over the years with the menu pics lol. Expect to pay around $15 for a burger, fries, drink.
Definitely an experience. There was a line of about 25 people on Sat afternoon. Service seemed like it could have been quicker. The burger (The Big One) was good, but didn't live up to the patron behind me "the best burger in town." He suggested the Tijuana Torpedo which is crowned with 2 banana peppers. They're grilled over a flame, inside, in front of you. All in all, I'm glad I went. I'd go again if someone was headed there, but I feel like I can cross it off my to-do list.
Our visit was acutally 3 months ago, after attending ASU's Convocation Ceremony. We were in a hurry as part of our party had travel plans from Sky Harbor later that afternoon. The line, seemed intimidating initially, but the staff are so organized that the wait was minimal. The burgers were juicy and the onion rings were just right! The fixings are self-serve, which was also a plus. It's cash only so be prepared. When our future travels take up to Tempe, We Will Be Back!
