My first Portillos experience was a win! The fries were so incredible and the hot dog was delicious too! Service in the drive-thru was exceptional. Will definitely be back!
Moving from Chicago to Arizona was a huge change for me in just about every way. I never had good options at Portillos, but I would go and get their old veggie Chicago dog (a Chicago dog sans dog!) and fries once and awhile.Lo and behold, there is a Portillos right by my new house and I found out about through their plant based Chicago dog announcement! I had to go and try it right away. It was so nice to have a familiar taste from home and to experience the vibe of Portillos from another place. The service was excellent, a worker even saw us eating our dogs without drinks and got us waters. Talk about above and beyond! Thanks Portillos for expanding your business and your vegan options!!
Got a double cheeseburger…..and have to admit, it was pretty darn good. Nice, big, juicy, messy char-grilled burger.
We love love Portillos’s and had a very good meal, but it was not as awesome as I remember it from my Chicago days. My combo (Italian beef + sausage) was a bit small, but my wife’s Italian beef was big. The fries and cheese were good. Prices were $35 for the above plus two sodas. Nothing is a value anymore. Dominic the bus-boy/bus-man was a hoot to chat with! Don’t get me wrong, this is a great 4 starr place, and you have to try it if you have not been here before. I just remember it as a 5 star from awhile ago. VictorB
An opportunity to eat at my childhood craving of Portillos. Food is on point and brings back all the Chicago vibes. Feel inside will making you look twice if somehow you've transcended from Phoenix burbs to Chicago burbs. Staff was a solid 2 star but given the joy in our hearts from transporting to Chicago we focused on our taste buds. Grouchy staff, cashier couldn't figure out how to take an order to save her life, staff was rude and exasperated to get us all of our missing items. Try to not ruin the experience people. Learn some kindness.
Beef sandwich was really tasty and reminded me of childhood troops to Chicago. The rest, not so much. But delicious nonetheless.
We just ran in as we were heading out of town but the atmosphere and the music were Fabulous. There's lots to look at and read decoration wise. We only stopped by for 2 slices of chocolate cake and 2 chocolate cake shakes. They were VERY good. Not to die for but the shake was better because the ice cream element helped to relieve all of the chocolate. But the smell of the food inside was heavenly our next trip to Phoenix we will definitely stop to eat.
For a Chicago namesake this is a great a great tasting popular hot dog and loose meat sandwich establishment. It was a little greasy for my taste and could have had a bit more flavor and loose meat sandwich as as I may have been missing a topping or 2 but for the long line that I saw when entering we did move through fairly quickly. There are 2 different counters one for alcoholic beverages and 1 for everything else and the patio is quite a good option considering the inside seating is usually taken especially during lunch or dinner rushes.
I would give Portillo's 3.5 stars if I could, but I'm ultimately rounding up because both times that I've visited, the Italian Beef sandwich (Dipped) with sweet and spicy peppers was very good and I'd happily come back for the exact same item! With that being said, the fries are generic and boring (in that they are the exact same frozen, crinkle-cut fries you can buy in the grocery store and make yourself). My bf ordered a grilled chicken sandwich which was nothing special and "very greasy". Had he not tried 2 bites of my Italian Beef sandwich, he wouldn't have any desire to come back to Portillo's. However, he loved the beef and gravy with hot peppers and would definitely come back to get his own!The free chocolate cake on your birthday is heaven!
This restaurant is located at the southwest corner of the Temple Marketplace at the McClintock Dr and Rio Salado Parkway intersection. It has a smaller separate parking lot from the rest of the market place which can get a bit crowded during lunch time. My friends and I came here after running the Gilbert Half Marathon earlier in the morning. My friends got in line to place their order. I decided to skip the line and use their easy-to-use mobile app. I ordered the usual 2 jumbo Chicago dogs and a large chocolate malt shake. Our food was ready at about the same time. Since the weather was nice, we opted to eat our lunch outside in the patio area.
