Martha was a very fun, knowledgeable and energetic tour guide! Very cool to see the property. I just wish we could have seen more than the main rooms. So many private areas that were not open to the public but have me wondering what the heck is in there?!
Space unfolds as you enter the world of Frank Lloyd Wright. Bruce was our tour guide as we explored the details of Frank's purpose driven experience. There's so much to see that one day may not be enough but it depends on your love of his summer home away from Wisconsin. Taliesen offers a nice nod to the Chiuly artist as well. Cameras and Photography are welcome. Be sure to bring water and a sun hat if you go on a bright day. 50% of his work came after he turned 70 as he truly inspires life after retirement.
Enjoy the southwest masterpiece “winter camp” of America’s visionary architect Frank Loyd Wright! The tour is just over an hour, about 60% of the time standing outdoors (which can get hot!) But there are interludes inside and some opportunities to sit. Older adults who already have some background knowledge of art and architecture will really enjoy the experience. Great gift shop, too
Unless you’re a fan of architecture and/or Frank Lloyd Right, it is not worth it. We chose the audio tour, which was full of filler content imo. The pictures posted include the only rooms we got to see. We couldn’t see a few things the audio tour included either because they were blocked off by rope or, in one instance, we entered the room only to be told there was a private event going on so we had to either leave or wait. For a “90 minute tour,” we were actually only there for 30 minutes. The tour was advertised as a walk through artistic and creative architecture on 5 acres of land… overhyped and overpriced for a standard tourist. The few sculptures we did see were cool, though, and I appreciated the explanation behind them.
Frank Lloyd Wright buildings are amazing so it was inspiring to see his western campus for his family and his apprentices. We had the good fortune to visit during the recent Chihuly exhibition as well. The construction to melt into the landscape and accentuate the natural landscape was amazing as were the sculptures and water features on the site. We got to see Wright's personal dressing table and office, the communal dining room, the movie room as well as the apprentices workshop. The glass installations were also in keeping with the plants in the area. A great visit and would recommend a visit to everyone interested in architecture.
I thoroughly enjoyed the In A New Light: Wright & Chihuly Tour, led by Rebecca. It was educational and entertaining. $50 a ticket is steep for a group tour, but I’m glad I visited. The grounds are beautiful and the glass sculptures make this a special experience.
$50 was a bit steep. While the gardens and outdoor area was wonderful we were really disappointed that we didn’t see more of the living quarters. We would have loved to see the kitchen and bathrooms and his design of those. Our favorite room was the garden room which was the only part of the private family quarters you got to see. 10 minutes for the first few audio sections was too much. Definitely not a place for kids or anyone who doesn’t care for historical architecture. Also, not a good place at all for hard of hearing. No signs whatsoever describing what the audio tour was sharing.
This is the winter home of Frank Lloyd Wright. Tour tickets are $49 for seniors. You have to buy them in advance on the internet. A tour guide takes you around the property, both inside and outside the buildings, for about 90 minutes. We found it interesting, but probably more suited for people who already know a fair amount about Frank Lloyd Wright and want to see his property. They have a nice gift shop and plenty of parking. Be aware that you will be standing outside in the sun, on and off during the tour.
The best! We admire and seek FLW homes when traveling out of town. Our docent gave a marvelous description of the working spaces and the home... as well as the garden and sculptures areas. It was a bonus for the home to include many Chihuly glass pieces... would have liked to see more of the house indoors. We love both FLW and Chihuly's work. Parking was 'just enough.' We thought the price was a little high but we're pleased to be there.
We are big Frank Lloyd Wright fans. He was such a colorful visionary. We have been on tours to 5 other homes he designed. This one is so exquisite in how it seamlessly blends with the beauty of the desert. Glenn, our guide, was super in bringing its history to life. The tour is worth the fee and time to enjoy.
