I have fond memories of sitting
Food was overcooked and flavor was a little underwhelming. Drinks were good. Service was great. Not able to to separate checks or credit cards as apparently their system is too antiquated. Not sure why they are not able to create separate checks from the beginning. No happy hour or birthday dessert.
What an absolutely top tier place. Had dinner earlier in the night and the service was above and beyond and the food delicious. Just an all around super experience. Then there was a twist. after a nearby social event, a groups of us wandered back sat down intent on eating as a group. Unbeknownst to us, we actually walked in after the place had closed. The person in charge said he could not get us fed but offered to allow us use of the outdoor area to sit and chat as long as we wished and didn't ask for anything in return. Just amazing. I have walked into several places over the years at closing time and, up until now, had always been met with "sorry, closed" or just "Closed! You need to leave". And that is fine. However. The person in charge made us feel like family and welcomed us to stay as long as we wished. He even set us up with some waters to quench our thirst. That small action has made me a loyal customer and supporter of the business. Thanks folks for going waaay above and beyond for people who you were making no money off of.
It was okay but I don't think I'd have a need to eat here again. Here's the thing. I've travelled and explored Mexico my entire life as I have family in CDMX. The enchiladas that I ordered were as typical and as authentic as one would find in a fondita in any mercado throughout the country. But I didn't enjoy them, even though they were authentic. My wife's mole (apparently made in house) was bitter and unpleasant. At one bite, I exhaled a "Whoa" and she gave me that look. But it just wasn't a wonderful recipe. Now, I understand there are many moles throughout the 7 regions of Mexican cuisine and perhaps this one is a more northern, Sonora style. And if it is the mole one grows up with, well, that's the mole that one thinks is the best and the normal one. This one though. More akin to the sour standardized Doña María jarred moles. The tortilla of the day was some sort of dried out chipotle and cheese creation. Like cardboard. For a place with tortilla factory in its name, I would have expected more of their nixtamal based tortilla. The grilled elote with the chile rub and crema was good. And so, for two entrees, an elote and a margarita, the bill came to $74 with tax and tip. And that is just a brutal amount to pay. Then again, the seating in the patio was delightful so one would want to factor in the atmosphere of the place when considering it. I wouldn't return here "just to dine". It would be a place for a visit of a more social outing kind of thing. Not for the food at these prices. The staff were nice, though I could tell that they weren't up to speed (one person referred to the tortilla as made with cheese and chipoley in it and another couldn't tell me if the red sauce was ancho and guajillo...no big deal, hell, they are just kids, but it made me think that maybe they hadn't been given a good introduction to the cuisine of Mexico by the owner or the kitchen staff.
The fish tacos and green chili enchiladas had no flavor. Trying to remember what made it great back in the day. I've had better tasting meals at Filibertos. Seriously try them, no reason to come back anytime soon.
First the good: Love this place and that they still offer a "daily" tortilla flavor with butter. When we went it was cheese tortilla with garlic butter. As usual they were so good!!! The food was excellent, as always. I tried their virgin mango margarita (designated driver) and our was very good and tasted like real mango, not artificial at all. Pics of food attached. The parking lot is small and was full when we got there at 6:30 pm but i found parking on the street across from Valley Ho Hotel. What I wasn't happy about:I had called 4 days before, but no one picked up to make reservations for party of 6 for dinner on Saturday night. The machine said to leave a message and I'd get called back about my reservation, but never got a call. We still tried and they were able to accommodate us, but not outside. Apparently the patio is booked out 2 months in advance, so just be aware. I did noticed that when we left at 8 pm, there were some tables on the patio open, so maybe if you do late dinner you'll get lucky to sit outside.Do NOT get the top shelf Margarita. Our friends are connoisseurs and the top shelf Margarita was weak and it does not come with a little extra shot glass of the Gran Marnier. When our friends complained it tasted weak and that there wasn't an extra shot glass the waitress just brushed it off with "it's already mixed in, that's how we do it here". So the top shelf wasn't worth the extra $. We wouldn't order it again.
Great place to sit outside and have some drinks. It's a chill laid back vine with delicious food. We got the sampler tray, the mole, Oaxaca bowl and flan. All well made and packed with flavor. The flour Tortillas with butter served in place of bread were great.
Mediocre food, slow service and if you’re seated inside just beware that where the good comes out is by the bathrooms and doesn’t smell great.
Been trying to eat here for a while but since they won’t take reservations for less than 6 people, we never could get a table as a couple unless we wanted to wait over an hour. Put a group of 6 together and we went on a Sunday night with a reservation. Everyone loved the margaritas, even the 2 of us who got the virgin ones. Definitely not a mix. The only odd thing is that they don’t give you chips and salsa and if you want them it’s $6 which is pretty strange. The food is a bit on the pricey side but really delicious, fresh, and homemade. Service was top notch. The patio is a gorgeous venue with string lights and trees. Very nice atmosphere.
Queso fundido with chips and salsa was SO GOOD. Get that and drinks and enjoy the beautiful, expansive patio. My teen had the mole stack. The mole was good, chili forward, not sweet. Hubby's steak was nicely seasoned. My fish tacos were bland but the sauce that came on the side helped. Service was rushed. Our server clearly wanted to get out of there.
