The food is incredibly fresh and has a depth and brightness we rarely find when eating out, especially at this price point. Great vibe, friendly staff, good music, and ample parking to boot. Stop searching endless Google reviews and come here for dinner already!
Gorgeous little patio with excellent Mexican food. The bartender wasn’t in a very good mood when we were there, but food was good. I had the smoked chicken enchiladas guest had the corn tamale (my favorite)The shade and misters made the area comfortable. Fairly close to the botanical gardens, a good stop afterwards!
The restaurant sits in a cute brick house on Scottsdale Road. I have a feeling our waiter was either the owner or manager but he was a charming Mexican man who made us feel welcome and attended to all our needs with a smile. The food is simply amazing. My wife is a picky vegetarian and they made the most wonderful veggie and cheese enchilada. We had a salad that had the lightest and most delicious dressing--done with finesse. My carnitas tasted like a homemade roast. To continue with the praise the salsa was delicious, tangy and homemade. Great drinks menu with yummy margs. We will be back often as we now live in Scottsdale. Come here and you'll have no regrets. Also we loved seeing Mexican families here which suggested to us that it's authentic.
Start off with Sopes and a Steve Margarita! Food and drinks here authentic and perfectly prepared. I had the Shrimp tequila dish and loved every bite.
We went here with another couple for lunch on a very hot March day. We ate on the patio and with all the beautiful trees and plants out there, it was pleasantly cool. I absolutely loved my meal. I had a Steve-a-Rita (let me warn you that these go down quite easily) which is one of the best margaritas I’ve had in a long time. And I had thePuerco en chipotle which was outstanding. This is a house specialty of carnitas over a delicious sauce with so much flavor. I should have ordered another plate because everyone at our table was eating mine! My husband ordered tacos which he said were fine but nothing special. I would be very happy to go to Los Sombreros again and I would order the exact same meal.
My wife and I showed up for a late afternoon cocktail and early dinner. It took at least 15 minutes for waiter to acknowledge us and another 20 minutes to get our margaritas. Waiter was friendly and apologetic, but the wait still seemed way too long. Once food was finally ordered, it came out within a reasonable time frame and tasted great. Then another long wait to get the bill (I had to go track down the waiter). The restaurant was maybe half full, so should not have been an issue with staff being swamped. Honestly, there are lots of great Mexican Restaurants in Scottsdale and we won't come back to this one just due to the poor service,
Wonderful choice to stop for dinner after our meeting. I had the sopas and mom has the taco trio. The sopas were much better choice, but the tacos were good also.
We was lucky to get a last minute reservations here. We had a party of eight but the table where we were seated at was designed for a smaller group. The waitress was friendly and drinks and the appetizers came quickly (due to the small table it was hard to position the plate without our elbows smashing the food). The main course was a different matter. 30 minutes in, the Waitress came by and said they were out of this and that and we opted for whatever they had left. Waitress said the food is almost ready and 30 minutes later the entrees started to trickle in. Half the table was almost done with their food before the remaining dishes came. But overall the food was fresh and delicious. Hopefully they can resolve their service issues.
Good food , friendly but slow service ?
What a great place to eat! Los Sombreros offers a high quality plate. I really enjoyed the shrimp tacos. The owner Kirk Riske provides great hospitality and leads an impressive staff, featuring the hard-working Kenny Martinez. Highly recommended when you visit Scottsdale!
