Chips and salsa
The food was good, but the service was bad. As my friend is a light eater, we told our server we were going to split a beer and a fajita plate. But we had to ask for 2 glasses after they just gave us the 1 beer bottle, and then again 2 plates after they dropped just the fajita plate. Immediately after we asked for the extra cups and plates, the staff continued to clear dirty dishes from a vacant tables before getting the items. Meanwhile the beer got warm and food got cold. They also did not refill our chips. I would have expected more from the service as we ate after the lunch rush time and we were the only table with items waiting.
I’m typically pro small business given the nature of my business, however, I could not let this experience go by. I would not frequent this establishment again….. ever. I was here on business with two other staffers and a business partner. I wanted to go to Old Town Tortilla Factory (which I highly recommended) but due to some logistical issues, we able to make it there. I left for a moment and May staffers indicated that a guy recommended this place to them given where we were. The first bad sign was we arrived at 8:10 and they closed at 9:00. You could tell they were in no mood to stay late, so everything was rushed - the new COVID world. What they were aware of is that my coworker spoke Spanish and hear their frustration over our late arrival too. Here is the good part: my coworker wanted a margarita but told the waitress that she didn’t want “the cheap stuff.” She recommended Azul, which I’m familiar with, which can range $50-125 A BOTTLE. She then ordered a pitcher, thinking it would be cheaper then single glasses - we had two. Mind you, a pitcher isn’t that big and is mostly ice. At the end when I received the bill, it was for $461.00!!!!!! The dinner was around $60 some odd dollars but they charged me $175.00 PER PITCHER and we had two for $350!!!!!! Have you ever heard of such a thing? Even if the poured the whole bottle, which wouldn’t fit and a splash of margarita mix, it still wouldn’t have conflated to $175.00. Im sorry to use this term but it best describes the situation, which is rape!!!!! There is no justification for this. The pitcher was filled to the brim with ice. Try it at home. Get a picture, fill it with ice and see how liquid you can put in it. We got four drinks out of it (and the drink was bland and nothing to write home about, I don’t even even know if it had Azul in it because it was so watered down). The waitress said it was going to cost more but not $175 a pitcher more. After she dropped my check off, which I had given my card because they were in such a rush, we never saw her again. They started putting up these wood panels around the bar and then we were there with another table by ourselves. My coworkers still wanted to do the right thing and left them a 20 percent tip, which added insult to injury but they felt guilty by not doing so, knowing I wasn’t going to leave anything. Again, I write this begrudgingly because my team supports small (especially minority) businesses. I’m believe I’m fair as I write good and not so good reviews, it’s easy to write bad reviews but after this experience and writing this one, I need to write a good one to cheer myself up.
We ordered Edawrdo's Carnitas Platter and Chimichanga. Good choice. Mine was better than her's.
Would give zero stars if I could...we were told there was a short wait to be seated, we asked if we could order a margarita while we waited, the answer was no. When we were seated, the man handed my wife our menus, pointed to the back of the patio and said "your table is back there," then walked off. Server didn't come to the table for 10 minutes, took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. Had to wave down our server to order food, never saw her again until we waved her down for our check. We asked for water twice but never received any water. Unfortunately, this kind of service is becoming way too common. I guess the only thing you can do is not return, which we definitely will not.
Fun atmosphere on the back patio. The food was good — lots of authentic options. We had the chicken mole enchiladas, and shredded beef chimichanga and of course the ceviche and a pitcher of margaritas.
I had the most delicious meal! I chose the chicken cream of poblano entree...it was honestly AMAZING! I have been craving it ever since. I also had the pineapple margarita on the rocks which was delicious as well. My husband got the chicken chimi which had super moist and flavorful chicken....so yummy!! I definitely recommend eating here!
We wanted to sample the tacos so ordered six A La Carte ; two each shrimp, fish, and steak asada - one on blue corn tortilla and one on regular corn. First, tortilla made all the difference since the blue tortillas held up and added bit of flavor while the regular tortilla fell apart on first bite all three times. Fish was our favorite, steak flavorful, and shrimp lacked dimension. Guacamole or salsa might have helped. Okay if in Old Town but we are still looking for the best Tacos in Scottsdale.
First night in Phoenix, searching for a good local restaurant. Happen upon Frank and Lupes's. Decor replicates what a local ma and pa barrio restaurant would be . Ironic in the middle of upscale Scottsdale but it worked. The food was excellent. No complaint there. However be prepared to wait for it. No problem if you are with good dinner companions then the time won't matter.
Food was good but not the best I’ve had. The service though was beyond disappointing and a shame because I was really looking forward to checking out this longstanding establishment. We asked for water twice and didn’t ever get it so had to go get a pitcher and glasses ourselves. We were seated in the sun so when a table opened in shade, we asked to move which seemed to be no issue but then we weren’t waited on again the rest of the meal. The mojito had no tequila in it - sent it back and never got a replacement…..until I was done with meal about 30 minutes later. Never got silverware with our food and had to go get it ourselves. Never checked on how our food was and if we wanted anything else. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Worse service ever.
