I’m not a Sushi fan, but was invited by friends who are…they liked it ok, some of it seemed quite chewy and that person didn’t enjoy!I got the Japanese Curry Seafood Udon (mussels were very chewy and tough—idk, never had mussels that were like that ?)! Shrimp was quite good. Too much noodle for me though…oh well. It’s a very small place, not great ambience or comfortable, but there’s a patio that has more seating. Bathrooms are unisex. Parking is very tough and very tight to get in/out of the parking lot off Central!Give it a try, you might like it.
This place is really good. They have a great selection of sushi rolls and Sashimi. I ordered a bunch of stuff. I don’t remember all. I have done Dine in and delivery.
First let me say I like yama sushi, I usually order ramen and rolls Togo, have always been very good.Today's take out lunch I tried the teriyaki bento, comes with rice and salad. I hoped the chicken was grilled, but it wasn't...way too much sauce, and the salad was old and gross.Would still go back, but stick to my usual order.
Pretty good overall. Got the sushi boat, tataki, nabeyaki udon, and Fuji roll. Tataki was a bit disappointing considering it's 15 for four thin slices of fish. Fuji roll was good, came with cubed chunks of fish on top of the roll. Udon was flavorful, on the sweeter side with a strong mushroom flavor. The sushi boat came with red snapper, albacore, tuna, salmon, and yellowtail sashimi, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and white tuna nigiri. A dragon roll and we subbed the spicy tuna roll for a yellowtail scallion roll ( they were the same price otherwise a sub might incurr a charge for the difference). The yellowtail and salmon were prolly the best texture wise (a bit more firm).
I’ve been here twice and it has been by FAR the best sushi experience I’ve had in Phoenix. Great service, a lovely ambience and unbeatable sushi at a reasonable price. Great work! Can’t wait to return.
Great sushi. Some places make my stomach feel a little off, but not this one. I love that they’re open on Sunday!!! Every other sushi place around us is closed on Sunday.I highly suggest this place.Would given 5 stars…. I do wish they had more parking and more spicy tuna roll options, but they always accommodate us with customizing how we want the rolls. The windows, soy sauce bottles, handles, bathrooms, and menus especially, are always incredibly dirty.
Writing this review because of how amazing the salmon skin roll was! I’m always on the hunt for a good crispy salmon roll and Yama definitely surpassed my expectations. There’s a lunch special from 11-2pm which involves a roll and 5 pieces of nigiri for $12, and then every day from 2-6 there’s a happy hour menu. I came at 1:45 and got the best of both worlds.Probably worth 5 stars by most people’s standards, and they are definitely there. However I’ve had a really mean server the first time I came (today my server was lovely) and the parking is extremely difficult due to limited spaces — hence my 4 stars. Will probably be back to rate 5 stars and also try more of their specialty rolls because they all look super aesthetically pleasing.Seems like a great date spot, love the open patio.
