It's one of the oldest and best steak houses in AZ! Try it! I had the Durant's Debris appetizer and it was fantastic!
Arguably the best prime rib in regard to flavor we’ve ever had. Service was good. The dining area is very nicely done as far as decor / layout. Yes you cut through the kitchen on your way to the host station. Kinda cute but feels weird lol. We thought the Caesar salad was fairly bland as was the whipped mashed potatoes. The bread was not at all to our liking….. would prefer ‘normal’ bread & butter. Key lime pie was ok. Ribeye was ok. We’d go back for the prime rib & the classic steakhouse atmosphere.
Exceptional service - your water glass will never run dry! Martinis are wonderful - especially with the blue cheese olives which are slightly astringent and delightful! Spinach salad was good and waffle fries were exceptional. Rib eye steak was ordered medium and came out medium well. Flavor was fantastic though and steak was very tender and the char / crust was excellent. The bread here is a meal in itself, so go slow! I would come back again but order medium rare to get medium.
My son and his family joined my wife and me in Phoenix for Christmas last year, and we heard about Durant’s. It’s so good that getting a reservation can be difficult. On a whim, after going to Scottsdale, we called Durant’s, found out that they’d had a cancellation, and that they could seat our party of 5 at 6:00 P.M. No problem! When we arrived, we felt like we’d gone back in time. The interior reminded me of really nice restaurants that are long gone. From start to finish, the service, the drinks (the Martinis were great), and the steaks we ordered were fantastic. I’d never had a Delmonico steak before, and it couldn’t have been better. It’s easy to understand why getting a reservation there is a challenge. If we lived in Phoenix, Durant’s is the kind of restaurant that we’d try to visit every other month and always for special occasions. It’s just that good. Even though our experience with Durant’s was months ago, my wife and I are still talking about it.
When you enter this restaurant via the kitchen back door, you know you are in for a treat. This is a great old-school steakhouse with a classic, vintage decor. The menu had all you would expect with a true steakhouse and the service was A+++.
Here is a tip: if you want to impress your friends that you are a regular at Durant's, then park in the back and use the back entrance through the kitchen. Greet the kitchen staff like you are there every week. Your friends will be impressed.Durant's is known for their outstanding martinis. Have one with the oysters as appetizer. Durant's is all about great steak. You will not be disappointed. They come with salad and potatoes. By the way, you need to make a reservation to be shure you get a nice booth for dinner.
We enjoyed our visit to Durant's while on vacation. The restaurant has the old school feel, complete with red velvet wallpaper, entry in the kitchen where staff enthusiastically greet you.The salmon was very sweet, which I did not expect, but perfectly cooked. The scallops and steaks were also cooked well but lacked in flavor. We tried a few appetizers which were good, but again lacked flavor/seasoning. We found it necessary to add hot sauce...I do want to compliment the owner who personally greeted each table and the staff were phenomenal. Overall an awesome experience and definitely would recommend.
You may go to Durants because of its storied history, to imagine sitting beside a member of the Rat Pack or one of Phoenix’s movers and shakers. You could have. You may go because you’ve heard people walk through the kitchen to get in, and you can’t believe it’s true. It is. But the reason Durants has been such an icon in this city’s culinary history for so long is simple - its food. Even with the limited post pandemic menu and inflation related price increases, you MUST experience Durants, and more than once. Of course their steaks are some of the best in the business. But don’t over look the Oyster Rockefeller, which is the best I’ve ever had. You have to search for the oyster in all the cheese and crumble. Yum. Manhattans? Perfecto. Even the warm bread is a treat. For a quiet dinner, ask for a booth in the bar when you make your reservation. It’s very intimate, perfecto again.
An amazing place! A great back door entrance through the kitchen, Dark and cozy inside, service is impeccable and the food is delicious.
I’m sure things would’ve been great had this day had food come out perfect, but they overcooked it and it was well done. When The steak is no longer juicy it’s over done. This place is known for steaks. I will definitely come back and give them a try again and hopefully they can get it right maybe I’ll order it a little less temperature on next trip near. Great service, hard working staff.
