This place deserves all the love! I haven't had Caribbean food in a very long time. The spices, flavor, and texture of the food were incredible. I ordered the Jerk tofu, Johnny cakes, vegan mac & cheese, and plantains. All of it was amazing. The vegan mac & cheese was really impressive and if I dare say, better than dairy mac & cheese. I will be returning again and again. Glad to have this gem of a place in the area!

I've never had *real* Caribbean food before, but this was a wonderful introduction to the cuisine. We tried the Jerk Chicken, BBQ chicken, Oxtail, Plantains, and Johnny Cakes. The Jerk seasoning was incredible with just the right spice and depth of flavor. The BBQ was a nice mild, sweet sauce that was seasoned super well. The Oxtail was super tender and flavorful, although the sauce was just a tad too salty. I really enjoyed the texture of both the meat/fat and the sauce. The rice was cooked perfectly and I surprisingly enjoyed the cabbage on the side. Plantains were fine and we really liked the light sweetness and fried texture of the Johnny Cakes.Highly recommend this spot for people who haven't tried the cuisine and I'm certain longtime enjoyers of Caribbean will love the food as well as its family-ran.

In a search for a restaurant which serves plantains I was pleasantly surprised to see that Desert Island Eatery was less than a mile from my house. I became even more excited to see all of the vegetarian/vegan options on the menu. I ordered the Jerk BBQ Tofu, Johnny Cakes, and (of course) the plantains. The tofu came with a side of rice and cabbage. The flavor of every item was fantastic. I am just upset with myself for not know that Desert Island Eatery was here previously. I will definitely be back to try other items. Highly recommended.

This place is amazing! This is where amazing food comes from! They provide great vegan options! So good!Order from here and you won’t be disappointed!

This restaurant has been exactly what I’ve been looking for when it comes it authentic Jamaican food in Arizona. The food is very flavorful, fresh and hot. Not only that, they also have vegan/vegetarian options. Yessss finally an option for all eaters to get something delicious and flavorful!

I am so happy we came and checked this place out! We were nearby on our way to one of our favorite vegan spots when I decided to look up “vegan near me” to see if maybe there was a new option that looked good. The moment I saw photos of the food I knew this place was going to be good. We headed right over and from the moment we walked it, the island vibes were there. Talk about a laid back atmosphere with the most gorgeous decor to match. The restaurant is family owned by a beautiful couple and their very well behaved children. They helped us pick our food as first timers, and we ordered the BBQ Tofu, the potato chickpea curry, a pineapple ginger limeade beverage, with a Johnny cake covered in apple chutney for dessert. This place blew my socks off. Amazing flavors in every single item. The cabbage was perfectly cooked as well. We will definitely return, next time with our 6 year old. I’m sure he will be ordering the vegan Mac for us all to enjoy. Thank you so much for the amazing food and service!

Curry goat, sea moss and Johnny cakes. ??????. This place is excellent food this delicious. Staff is excellent. Chef keep it up, best Caribbean food I had in Phoenix.

WOW!!I recently went to an island restaurant that was featured on food network, and let me tell you it was LACKING. I went here and it was amazing! I will absolutely be going back! The vegetarian/vegan menu is awesome and the rice and peas are TO DIE FOR!

Really good food! As a Jamaican, I approve. I also enjoyed their tri-pate. Love the curried chicken and BBQ chicken a lot. My sister is a vegan, and she also loves eating her too. So options for everyone.

Very very over salted! Johnny cakes were good, yellow rice was okay, rice and peas were too but not made with the authentic seasoning. Good portion of oxtails but omg it was so salty I literally couldn't eat it, my dog even wouldn't touch the piece I gave her. Please please stop putting so much salt cause not many places serve oxtails and it's an expensive dish. Also please add a very small amount of salt to the plantains before you cook them will make a huge difference. Over all I am very disappointed. I make carribean style foods few times a week. It's not difficult and I'm disappointed that so many restaurants are getting it so so wrong. I appreciate that they offer so many vegan options. Seems like a nice family owned business but I ended up with a meal I couldn't eat.
