Went in on a Sunday night around 7p/730p and they had NO chips. How do you have no chips on a Sunday night and there is still 2 more hours to serve. It would have been nice had the server offered a cheese crisp or free dessert or a manager to touch tables. We could have left, but we drove specifically to eat here out of our way. As we were leaving the bartender tells 2 new guests he has a stash of chips behind the bar because they were informed they didnt have chips. That was annoying. Really? Probably my 2nd time eating here and last.
Just went out for dinner today. Very understaffed. There was one good waiter, super nice lady. The rest of them very super rude. Sat outside in the patio but the chairs were super dusty. I asked one of them to clean it for me but she didn't comr back or even let anyone know. The food was super bland. Tje chicken and beef was just shredded, no flavoring or anything. Tastes terrible.
After waiting for a table for a reasonable 15 minutes due to understaffing of waitstaff, we had to wait over an hour for our food to arrive with the excuse that the dining room was full (we sat in the bar area) and after 45 minutes I went over to the dining room area and there was only a few tables that were occupied which means our server forgot to put our order in. No big deal we were only offered drinks once after the initial three trips apologizing for not taking a drink order but the food was good once we finally got it. Again we sat at the table for another 15 to 20 minutes waiting for our check until finally I was able to find our server and hand her my card. I know times are tough with employees, and lack thereof, but man that was ridiculous.
Great service tonight, decent Mexican food. But I was super disappointed when my plate of rice came with plastic wrap pieces in it. I chewed on the small pieces of plastic wrap for a few seconds when I finally realized what it was! Told the server. She apologized. That’s my review. I didn’t ask for a refund I didn’t expect a refund. But I got no manager response or apology from the restaurant. Stuff happens. Better Mexican food can be found elsewhere.
It's unfortunate that I have to give a bad review, because we love the food at Top Shelf. However, the time management/service at this restaurant has been consistently poor and we can't give this location any more of our business. In a nutshell, they can't seem to get the food out in a timely manner and they can't tell you an accurate time for pick up. I will review the last two visits here: (1) We ordered food online for pick up and were given a 45 minute timeframe to pick it up. However, the food was ready in 15 and sitting on the counter for 30 minutes by the time my husband arrived! The staff explained the cold food by telling my husband that the website was giving inaccurate times. Nobody from the restaurant called to inform us of this important news. (2) On my next visit ... After placing my order OVER THE PHONE for a big father's day celebration, I was told the food would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived, I waited for 40+ minutes (keep in mind I showed up at 20 minutes, so this added up to an HOUR+ for our food to be prepared and ready.) We were told the cook didn't show up and every order was behind. They were telling walk-ins the wait time was 2 hours. I can't believe they told us 20 minutes over the phone. We felt lied to about this. Also, to boot, they got our order wrong. My dad and I said "no rice" and we both got rice in our dishes. This location is so poorly managed. We have a lot of other Mexican food choices around us.
Seated right away, didn't appear to be that busy. After we ordered more than 30 minutes passed the server told us they gave our food to someone else, but it would be right out another 15 minutes passed and still no food so we left. Not the servers fault, kitchen screw up!
On a chilly night sitting on the patio, my young daughter asked the waiter for "Hot Chocolate" we laughed, knowing it wasn't on the menu.He ended up coming back with the best hot chocolate we've ever had. Creamy and smooth, with a spicy cinnamon flavor. These days, everyone in the restaurant industry is working harder than ever, I appreciate that Top Shelf hasn't forgotten how to provide awesome service.
The quality and service here has been sliding over the past few months. This last time, they were completely understaffed. Waited at the front for ten minutes before being greeted by a host. Sat at table another ten minutes before someone took our drink order. Tables were left unbused the entire time we were seated. Very gross, and unprofessional. Our server neglected our table until it was time to pay bill. Yet somehow, they found time to sing happy birthday to one table with 4 servers, while everyone else stared on in confusion as other tables were clearly not getting service either. Being understaffed is one thing, but whoever manages this location should be fired immediately. At the very least a front of the house manager should be checking on customers in time of being short staffed. Been eating here for last 7 years, will not be returning.
I visited Top Shelf for lunch. As always the food was very good. I was craving Mexican food and this hit the spot. I would recommend this restaurant to any gringo looking for good Mexican food. The meal size portions are generally more than one can eat. Our waitress was a delight, had a great sense of humor, and was very attentive to our needs. I come here every time I am in the area.
We have eaten here often over the past 5 years, but no longer. The last time we were at Top Shelf we had a rude waiter who took over an hour to bring us our food. Then this week we placed a telephone order to be ready at 5:30 PM and when we arrived they had lost our order, and then tried to say that I had placed the order at the wrong store. Fortunately all I had to do was to show them the call history on my phone. They then made four pathetic dinners, each of which were supposed to have beans and rice on the side. There must be a shortage of refried beans because the most any of the dinners had was about a tablespoon of refried beans. The chicken fajitas, fish tacos, chicken fundido, and beef fundido were bland.I think this restaurant is plummeting in terms of both service and food quality. I notice from reading other reviews that this is not unique just to our experience.
