I went in to the McKelleps Mesa location and ordered full rack of ribs, beans, potato salad and mac-n-cheese. Told them I had company driving in from Oklahoma. Ribs were thin, dry, like jerky. Very disappointed. This is the second time now. The sides were good. I definitely won't be ordering ribs anymore. Probably start looking for a new BBQ place.
Service was great. The sandwich even better! I really enjoyed the Pulled pork and chopped brisket jumbo sandwich. The pork was nice and smokey and super moist. Excellent.
A decade ago Tom's was a go to place for BBQ. Not anymore. We got a family meal with pulled pork, and chicken. For sides we got beans and Mac & Cheese. The pork was soggy, and had an almost artificial smoke taste to it. The chicken was decent, but nothing to spend almost $60 on. The mac and cheese was horrible. The pasta was extremely overcooked, and the cheese sauce tasted more like nacho cheese then what you'd expect in a BBQ joints mac and cheese. The beans were very overcooked. The mild BBQ sauce we where given was actually lumpy. The only thing of note was the rolls we got, I am assuming Tom's doesn't make them.
If you’re hungry and you want food, it’s edible…that’s about it. It doesn’t taste like anything. The pork is tasteless. The mac n cheese is Velveeta Shells n Cheese with piles of over-smoked bacon on top. The flavors don’t match. The bbq sauce doesn’t have any sweetness to it. Its just kinda acrid. It’s just there. If you want good BBQ this isn’t really where you want to go. And it’s really pricey for the one note in flavor.
It is an nice restaurant to eat some good food.
We enjoyed the meats, especially the smoked chicken. Next time we will ask for extra sauce on the side. Can't quite decide on the green beans. It had something in them that I think was supposed to be like burnt end pieces but it wasn't very good & they were over cooked. The mac & cheese might be ok for kids but not something I would order again. The baked beans were pretty good though. So all in all not bad. We will try it again. Maybe the it was just an off night for the sides. But a great night for the chicken!
I have been eating at Tom's for years, so it pains me to right this review. Tom's has raised their prices which is understandable but if you're going to raise them we should still get the same amount of food.I ordered the large pulled pork sandwich special but the sandwich was smaller than the regular size.shrinkflasion is a real thing these days. I will not be giving Tom's my money anymore.
Quick service, large portions, clean environment. Appears to be a popular lunch spot for a variety of service and professional workers. Decent flavor meat but only limited (2) selection of bbq sauces.
great tasting food friendly service bomb catfish and ribbs
As Southerners, we take our BBQ seriously and Tom's is delicious. They have pulled pork and brisket which we have enjoyed but also ribs, rib tips and more. They also have the best fried catfish we have found outside the South. It's hard to decide between BBQ and catfish. We usually get both and share with one another. Definitely recommend
