Dry cold chicken. Cold Al Pastor. Not much flavor.

Backyard Taco has its roots in authentic Mexican street food right here in Mesa. It's a great success story. The tacos and quesadillas are great. Meat is grilled in front of you on traditional fire grills. It's a pretty awesome concept. Topped with cabbage and onions. The salsa bar allows you to personalize the flavors and heat. The horchata and chips and salsa are good as well.Open seating with a large area great for large groups and families. Outdoor seating available.Only reason for 4 stars is that the experience/service is not always consistently good. In addition, I do not love everything on the menu. The potato dishes specifically are not a favorite.

OMG, I cannot even express how disgusted I was with the food here. I ordered the Bueno Bowl with chicken, and what I got literally looked like vomit. A big Styrofoam container of chewed up cabbage, and some other crap on top of watery, cold chicken. When I say watery, I mean almost a soup. I was only able to take 3 bites, I couldn't force myself to eat anymore. My son's cheese quesadilla was cold and was a soft taco sized tortilla, folded in half. Literally took him 4 bites to eat it. Cucumbers tasted like chemicals. All the sodas from the fountain tasted weird, like everything was mixed with root beer. I cannot believe after spending $52 at Backyard Taco, I now have to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Pretty good food. Nice seating area. Expect $3 per taco, so not necessarily the cheapest on the taco spectrum, but good. Get the burrito if you’re really hungry. Comparable to Don Joaquin’s tacos in Utah county.

Backyard Taco is so delicious. I usually visit the university location when I can. This Stapley location is bigger. The only thing is they didn't have any limes and the ice was out on the counter which was a little unsanitary. But over all employees were nice and food was good here also.

This place is wildly inconsistent with food and service. I personally usually only get a bean burrito and it’s different every time (they have zero other veggie options). A few times it has been really good but mostly its either ice cold, missing the cheese or is a stale or uncooked tortilla etc. I didn’t know bean burritos could be that easy to mess up. They also mess up our order all the time in the drive thru as well, if you use it be sure to check for your food. THEY WILL MISS TONS OF YOUR FOOD. And the soda often tastes terrible. We keep giving this place a try because people say they love it and we are super disappointed nearly single every time. We have been here over 10 times and maybe twice there was no issue.I am including a pic of the food I got today. The bean burrito was just a cold huge ball of unmelted still shredded cheese with a spoonful of beans. I don’t understand lol!

Stick with the tacos…. Burrito bowl is not worth is. The burrito is good but the tacos are their jam.

Friendly staff. We got our food quick. Very delicious!

Its been a while since i have gone to backyard taco and its still like the first time amazing i ordered the al pastor Burrito it was delicious with bits of pineapple like its soppuse to come with the service was great will be back soon ???

Ate here 1/17/22. Had the chicken burrito with green salsa. Worst food poisoning of my life. Save yourself and eat elsewhere.Update: Man, did this burrito put me through the ringer. There’s nothing quite like throwing up an entire burrito over the course of 5 hours. If management is reading this, heads up that a complaint has been filed with the health department. There’s something seriously wrong with that chicken.
