Chi pies is a New York style deli and bakery serving breakfast and dinner. It is located inside the Arrowhead mall.I have eaten at this location several times for both breakfast and dinner. The food is always excellent and I have not had a bad meal yet.It does seem to be busier for breakfast, but not so busy that you are waiting long.Service is good, never had any issues with the service received.
Super delicious, service was fast, coffee was good and portions so big we ate them again later.
I’m told this is the best deli in Phoenix. If true then that’s very very sad. So far I’ve only found one deli in the Phoenix area that’s worth the drive but this place isn’t. It’s very average for a deli. Mostly because in all the meat on my sandwich (turkey and Swiss on marble rye) all I could taste was the lettuce. I will say the bread, marble rye, was good. Not stale. And the Arnold Palmer I got was amazing. (I wish I’d have known I wouldn’t be getting a refill before my sandwich came though). Not easy choking down a huge sandwich without even a water to wash it down. Anyway. I didn’t like whatever those onion ring things are called at all. And the “chipotle ranch” that comes with is gross. I also tried the coleslaw and that was also a huge miss. Service was lackluster. One of my pet peeves is waiting. And waiting. For the check.I was hoping I’d finally found a real deli on the west side. I guess the search still continues.Side note: very expensive. And before you @ me with “you should have ordered the pastrami”. Maybe so. But a good deli has multiple good offerings. Not just one thing.
I want to start by saying this is not a reflection of the staff. They are the best! This is only a reflection of terrible corporate decisions, designed to increase profit, while decreasing costumer satisfaction and employee confidence. Chompie's used to make everything from scratch. They had the best dressings. They had the best waffles. And, my favorite, along with many others, were the pancakes. Well, yesterday I treated myself to a pancake breakfast. The very first bite I took, reminded me of eating a sponge with syrup on it. That is not the cook's fault. That is not the server's fault. That is the complete fault of the corporate ownership. I was instantly disappointed. They have opted to use a new recipe for their pancakes, obviously in an attempt to save money, and increase profit. I will not be ordering pancakes again. I have already told several people that Chompie's has clearly chosen to reduce expenses, and increase profits, at the expense of quality food. As I sat there trying to endure the terrible taste of that pancake, I looked around the restaurant, and saw that there was only one other table with customers. This place used to be packed from wall to wall, 7 days a week, no matter what time of day I went there. It is obvious that these terrible corporate decisions, have led to a loss of loyal customers, customer satisfaction, and that includes me. I will be going to Wildflower for my pancakes now. It's bad enough that, as customers, we are going to lose a restaurant we used to enjoy eating at. But what is worse, is that the employees that rely on tips, patronage, and loyal customers, are going to lose those tips, patronage, and loyal customers. The financial security, and job security, of these fantastic employees, are being compromised by the poor decisions of the corporation.
Google maps and search is not accurate close at 8pm not at 9 pm. Be for warned if you want a late night snack.Food is very authentic NY kosher style deli. The chicken matzo balls are light and fluffy and soup is excellent. Sandwiches are gigantic as you might expect. cup and 1/2 sandwich was plenty. They even give the table free plates of delicious pickles. Highly recommend if you want a New York experience in Phoenix.
My husband and I used to come here all the time as we have enjoyed the other locations for over a decade previously and my husband being from NYC also enjoyed it as a child. We have a lunch date every Friday and since COVID and restaurants opened back up we like to support our favorite restaurants. We have ordered food from here for delivery, holidays and special occasions, as well as the occasional (monthly) drop in for a bowl of soup, chopped liver and potato pancakes. A few months ago we were in for lunch the staff was very friendly but clearly overwhelmed and overworked, which is understandable due to the current hiring issues the country is facing. But the staff was still friendly and appreciative to be working. My husband at that time tipped our waitress $100.00 and the busboy $40.00 just to show our appreciation as they were doing the best they could. Today was HORRIBLE we waited at the host podium for at least 20 minutes while we watched an elderlu gentleman seat the 2 tables ahead of us, in the background we watched the manager and 4 emloyees just stare at the line of people and continued to chit chat about their evening plans. FINALLY, we were seated in the almost empty restaurant. About 10 minutes later our waitress (to our surprise) stood up from the table next to us where she was sitting with her family, and asked what we wanted to drink. We placed our drink order and she came back about 10 minutes later (mind you she only has 3 tables: us, her family, and table she already served) she gave us our drinks and proceeded with "what do you want" We placed out order and she went directly bac to sit with her families table to engage more with them. 20 minutes later she brought our soup at that point my husband asked for the check as he always does so that we can pay, tip and enjoy the rest of our meal. She brought the check he paid our bill was $40 and he tipped $30 (would've been another $100 .00 had she remotely been nice. One would think that a simple thank you would be nice, instead she leaves our table goes back to her families table and sits and trash talks my husband to them for paying early. About 15 minutes after that she abruptly brings our food and just plops it on the table and walks away, No refill of our drinks, no clearing out soup bowls from the table, and didn't even bring our full order. She didn't even come back to the table, you guessed it she went and sat with her family and the whispering and looking over at us continued, she didn't even acknowledge the new table that sat. (they sat for about 15 minutes before she went to them as well.) We didn't eat our meal as it's just not comfortable to be eating while you have someone treating you so poorly. As we walked out she and her family just watched us walk away. So my husband stopped at the host station and asked for a manager (which he never ever does) we were told he was talking to another table that we had to wait. the the SHOCKER... the manager starts kissing the woman at the table ( ooohh now this makes sense
The food is fantastic and the sandwiches are absolutely huge! I can only eat half of one.The desserts are... way too good. Straining my willpower to not just destroy their whole dessert selection! The staff is always super nice and friendly.
We ate in the restaurant for the first time. I'm a vegetarian and there's not many options. The waiter told me I could build my own sandwich and he recommended starting with the BLT and removing the bacon. He said I could substitute avocado for bacon, but then he charged me for adding avocado! He also charged me for adding cheese, when the menu said cheese comes on the build your own! I ended up paying something close to $20 for a flimsy sandwich that I can make better at home. I wish I took a photo; it was a sad sandwich; a letdown for sure.
Delicious Food! However…The staff seemed to be too preoccupied dealing with the few customers that were there and weren’t able to assist me.Called several times to have the food brought out for curb side, but was put on hold twice for over 30 minutes and never answered. So I went inside to the deli just to wait another 20 minutes, was never acknowledged, and eventually just reached behind the counter to grab my order for myself.May have just been a weird fluke, but thought it was worth mentioning so that manager might better distribute the staff in the future.
Prices are high. Food is good. The wait was forever. I do not blame the server though..
