Rio Rico is a newley opened location of a family styled Mexican restaurant with over 15 years of serving the nearby Gilbert area. The new facilities provide for a full bar, dining area, and two separately reserved party rooms for special events or dinners. This was my first visit to Rio Rico. The staff was very kind and sevice was fast, efficient and helpful. The prices were also reasonable. The seating area is spacious and some booths are more secluded than others. My entrée tonight was the Pollo Al Chipotle, which is a grilled chicken dish that is smoothered in a smooth, creamy aioli sauce filled with mushrooms, onions and spiced with a slow burn chipotle spice. It comes with rice and beans sides as well as a couple of flour or corn tortillas. It was a nice dish, but not flavors that I enjoyed. My son ordered the chile verde plate, which I tried some bites of. The green chile pork flavor was more of the light green flavor, nothing close to the hatch chile sharp flavor I enioy. The pork was perfectly cooked, but again more of an average green chile than I like. That said, the chips and salsa were excellent, and one of my important points of a Mexican restaurant is that the chips and salsa must be excellent if provided. I will return to Rio Rico because I didn't get a chance to try the red chili or sauce dishes. And the staff was genuinely excellent, so I am sure the I can find another entrée that I will be more to my liking.
Went there tonight waited 30 mins to be seated then after we were sat down we didn’t even have menus. Someone came over got us menus and said let me find out who your server is. We waited and 2 tables who were sat after us even received Chips and salsa. For 10 mins people were pointing at our table Including a hostess, server and manager yet nobody even bothered to come over. After waiting 15 mins with no chips or drinks or a server even acknowledging us we decided to leave. This was By far Worst first impression ever.
Customer service was nice and kid-friendly! Loved the carne asada burrito! The burrito came with pico de gallo inside along with a side of rice, which was very good! The horchata was very sweet but good.
Keep in mind this review is for a busy Friday afternoon at 6:15pm arrival to 8:10pm when we left. The wait was about 20 minutes for a party of 4. We ordered two shrimp cocktails, the ground beef taco plate, and a sampler plate. We sat for about twenty minutes waiting to order, then another 45 minutes for the food, watching larger parties who were seated far after we were get their food first. The excuse was there was a large to go order that backed up the kitchen. Our waiter was probably trying his best, but we didn't see him until we were about ready to just leave after we asked a waitress for help. She gave us attitude, unnecessary since my company is extremely patient and kind to servers. Heck read my review for Chili's when they had a skeleton crew on a Saturday, I understand understaffed crews, and respect people with service positions. It's hard, and everyday you deal with people who just make life miserable. I just wasn't expecting her to be so short and dismissive with her responses. So when our food arrived the excuse was that the shrimp cocktails take a long time to prepare. Now I'm fairly well versed in the kitchen, line cook, this is the opposite of the truth especially considering the quality of the cocktail I received. The cocktail was lacking in shrimp, and overly simple. It tastes like V8 mixed with ketchup, pico, and avocado chunks. The shrimp was fresh. The Refried Beans were dry on the Taco plate. The sampler was HUGE, and taste exemplary. Our waiter did try to make up for it with fried ice cream on the house, but I was already set in I'm ready to get out of here mode.
Excellent service and fresh food. The margaritas are splendid and absolutely amazing.
They have the best Margaritas in town!
Awesome food. Great staff makes you feel welcome and remembers you!
I give five stars a lot but this place deserves six. I can’t believe today the score is 4.6 which doesn’t do this place justice.I’m a big fan of Mexican food and honestly most of the places I liked are closed or aren’t the same post pandemic. What I really love is authentic family run places. That is what this place is. When I live in Los Angeles I would go to a place by LAX where they wanted to build the dream works studio called senior G. The owner cooked and his son worked the front. Eventually the dad retired and the son took over. He made some improvements it’s still there but I developed a love for their recipes. It was slightly different than most Mexican places in the area because they made the food the way their family always did. My point is that is what you have here. Not fancy different. Authentic family made with love different.I had a chili renno which isn’t the style I generally like the best. It’s battered with a thick egg batter. But I gotta say it was perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing. I could eat it every day. The sauce was perfect. The tamale was also perfect.Everything was great. Also one of the cleanest family run restaurants that I have eaten in.Even the Diet Coke was perfect.I’m picky and I’m saying this place was perfect.
$9 lunch special enchilada with red sauce, served with rice and beans. The enchilada sauce and the beans were delish! The rice was a little dry. Service was great.Salsa was fireyyyy and delicious - I couldn’t stop eating it.
Went there due to high ratings, but, for AZ Mexican food, it's simply average. Fajitas were good. Enchiladas were good. Relleno was fair. Chips and salsa were ...eh, not warm homemade tasting. Margarita was really sour. So, would go again, but only after trying others in the area first. Will say really good service while there!
