The service was great. Food was great. Comfort food at its finest. The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is because it was uncomfortably hot in there... So much so that the wall I sat next to was sticky with humidity. Go figure! It's Alaska! But it was summer and one of the hottest days of the year. They probably don't need air conditioning 10 months out of the year, but it would be sooo worth it for their summer tourists. My step son actually said, this would have been the best breakfast sandwich I've ever eaten but I can't enjoy it because it's hard to breathe in here!
This restaurant is situated very well within military community in the city of Fairbanks. The decor is a stunning mix of vintage Alaskan art and fish sculptures.Friendly staffs will help you from entering the building, very knowledgeable on their menu items for different recommendations for specific needs. The menu offers a wide variety of mouthwatering and delicious starters and main courses that will appeal to youngsters and adults alike.Highly recommend for any type of gathering. They have karaoke too.?
Good food, good service. Had the scrambled breakfast (I forgot the name) and it hit the spot. Would definitely go back
When I was stationed up in Alaska, this restaurant was always my go to in the morning and even during lunch. Staff is always nice and would recognize you if you were a regular, food is excellent, no complaints at all. Diner experience was always pleasant. Was the last meal I had before I left Fairbanks. Thanks Hometown Resteraunt for your excellent service and food!
Hometown restaurant is the Gold standard that other local dinners strive to be like. Consistently great food, friendly staff, and very reasonably priced. They have stayed in business in Fairbanks, Alaska by being one of the best dinners. It not the best.
Hometown was a surprisingly wonderful discovery! I’ve lived in the area for 24 years, and that’s saying something. It’s located along South Cushman St. not far from downtown. Locals consider the S. Cushman neighborhoods a little sketchy at times. There are many businesses and some car lots. Most of the buildings are in need of TLC. Do not let visual impressions deter you from making the trek. Inside Hometown you’ll find a clean, comfortable atmosphere with welcoming staff. Pick a booth, table, or have a seat at the counter. Even in late pandemic phase, you should be able to find enough distance to stay comfortable. I’m a big-breakfast guy, and you can get breakfast served up anytime. Kick it up a notch with a Hot Chicken Fried Steak with the meat smothered in gravy, cheese, and jalapeños. It’s served with two eggs, hash browns, and toast for $17.25. A lot of other choices await if that’s not your style, mostly in the $10-20 range. You can get two meals from the ample servings. For lunch you’ll find a variety of burgers and hoagies ($10.95-13.50), or maybe go big (or go home) with a 10 oz. ribeye steak sandwich ($23.95). In late afternoon you can snag fried seafood or grilled meat dishes for under $25. Whatever your choice, you’ll go away satisfied.
The food we had was very good. I had the French Combo. The quantity was more than I expected and I could only eat half. My husband had a hamburger, which he said was delicious. And my daughter had a house salad and the fried pickles, which she said was excellent. The service was good, but could have been a little better. The waitress didn't come to the table as often as we needed. But, she was friendly and accurate and we did get all we needed in the end.
Fantastic breakfast at Hometown! Husband is particular about his country fried steak but he said multiple times this was *very* good- great sawmill gravy! Some places up here in Fairbanks add weird things to their country gravy and it tastes weird but this is definitely a good gravy. Pancakes were fantastic! We will definitely be back and this will be a place we bring guests. Also the staff never let our drinks run low and they were hustling the entire time getting orders out!
We visited The family restaurant for breakfast for lunch. The restaurant was clean and they were decorating for Christmas we were greeted and seated immediately. The menu has lots of choices. Our waitress was very prompt and friendly. The food come out quickly and for the most part looked great The only reason for 4 stars is the hashbrowns were burnt and not much them very thin and sausage gravy on the biscuits and gravy there was no sausage kinda sad. Overall a good experience and we will definitely visit again soon. Tho with some minor improvements this could be a absolutely fantastic place.
Food and service were great. Large portions. Restaurant had an odd smell inside, but it was tolerable
