Fake Japanese restaurant. Does not recommend. Too expensive, and the crab sushi roll isn’t using real crab meat.

A very tasty bowl of shrimp udon. There is one cook, server and bar tender. He does it all and the food is very authentic and tasty. I recommend coming with an empty stomach and patience if it’s busy as he’s the only one running the shop. It worth it!

One of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in the US. Truly authentic and the food was incredible. Pork belly and sashimi are second to none.Run and operated by a single man and reservations are highly recommended, so go in early with an open mind and a bit of patience because it is absolutely worth the wait.

Over priced dish, nothing special and over rated! Food took about an hour to come out. The food was??They added 20 dollars fee to the bill for two people as dinner set free!!!! The chef instead of making food was busy with karaoke machine singing! ? don’t recommend this place at all!

We tried to eat there - an older couple plus one daughter. The proprietor looked up at us, as we entered. We seated ourselves, and waited as he served others. The food smelled delicious, and we were getting hungrier and hungrier. We were seated for at least 20 minutes, when he finally came over and said we had to leave - wouldn't serve a party of 3 without a reservation. I wouldn't have minded if he told us when we first arrived, but he didn't bother to. I will never return there, no matter how good the food may be.

Way more authentic than you'd expect from the outside. Wow, this place is incredible. The yakitori is as good as any I've have in Japan, and the udon is absolutely delicious too.The menus are hand written, posted on the wall, and the chef is also the only waiter. Go on Friday nights if you want a fun night - there's a karaoke machine that sometimes gets used.

I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the outside but, once I got in I could tell that it was going to be authentic. It’s one older gentleman working as cook and server so it does take a minute to get your food however it is definitely worth it. I got the shrimp tempura udon noodle soup and it was the most flavorful udon I’ve had. Amazing food, definitely going to come back.P.S. pork belly is bomb

Absolutely happy I went to Yamaya for dinner tonight. I had the Shrimp Tempura Udon and it was by far the best udon I’ve had.Growing up in a Japanese household I have pretty high expectations for Japanese food and they were more than met. It’s a small quiet location, it was nice to chat with the owner (I didn’t get his name sadly, I forgot to ask).He took care when making the food and it turned out very well. I definitely will come back when I come back through Anchorage again.

People complain how slow this place and how rude the owner/chef is. This place is great, food is delicious and made with love. Bottom line when you come here have patience and enjoy your company.
