If you're into the small dive bar scene you'll have a great time at Van's. If not just keep an eye out on their signs, the messages are gold.
I have been all over the world and the United States and never in my years or travel, be it for work or vacation, have ever encountered a place like Van's.Most bars try to be like Van's but fall short. There is an inherent organic authenticity to this place that kept me coming back. The drinks are generous, the music is good, and the regulars are an eccentric crowd but all good people just being their best selves.I'm not religious by any means, but Van's is the closest thing to a chapel and congregation in Anchorage. Do yourself a favor and experience it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
Maybe it was just the day I went but pretty crowded for such a small space. The live music was dreadful, singing about grandmas and just not creative or in tune. It was not my scene at all. I definitely wouldn’t return. It seems as though others would disagree as they seemed to be into it. Could use some talent on the stage!
Great music! Tight lil place with lots of energy! Staff were great as well, really on top of clearing tables and keeping up the hype.

Vans is a unique experience in the Anchorage Bar scene. Conan, is a phenomenal bartender with sharp instinct and memory. Place has great music variety and talent, with such a mix of crowd that is typically a bit more down to earth than your average dreary club scene downtown. If you're looking for something alternative to the norm, check out Vans.
All are welcome. Fantastic beer list for any bar, especially a dirty, crusty dive bar. Easy to drink alone in the corner or have a great convo with one of a kind Anchorage locals. Open mics, comedy, drag shows really something for everyone
