Today (FEB 8, 2022) I visited the Kobuk and I was absolutely amazed by the friendly staff and the ambience. Eva was absolutely the sweetest most kindest lady and very helpful! The samovar tea was excellent, and so was the fire weed donut!
our 1st stop in Anchorage. Located in a historic Kimball Building which was built in 1915, this little shop was packed with beautiful jewelry, teas and tea pots, and quality Made In Alaska crafts and artwork. In the back of the shop is a little coffee shop that had the most delicious donuts and other baked goods. I tried the fireweed one which was wonderful. a couple of tables were located inside the coffee/donut section and there was one table outside. You can't miss this place as it is in the corner of the block and painted a yellow color.
A quaint little shop to peruse and an excellent little coffee/tea shop in the back makes it a nice place to stop on a cool Alaskan day to warm up and please the palette.
This place is not only a good shop for souvenirs but sweet treats too. In the back they have a small coffee shop that sells amazing donuts. A few different flavors but I recommend them all. The Samovar tea is also delicious.
This place is a must visit for anchorage. I cannot say enough good things. First off, you should buy the samovar tea. They have samples in the front as of August 2021 to sample and it is irresistible. I had a different tea in my hand and immediately put it down once I tried this tea. Also they aren’t kidding when they say their donuts are award winning. They are surprisingly good. They are so much better than Dunkin’ Donuts or any other donut I have had. They have many good gifts to bring home. This should be the first gift shop you should visit in anchorage.
The Samovar tea is excellent (hot or iced), nice cinnamon taste, no sweetener needed. Eclectic store with candies and lots of interesting items. Kobuk’s has an airport location too (had to buy a bag of Samovar before heading home).
Mostly fiendly cashiers who watch you without watching you. I bought Alaskan gifts for my family and books for my students in the combination candy-book store.
Got a Chamomile tea (forgot the name). Was amazing! Wish there was a website to order for home.
This was my first coffee-and-nosh stop when I visited Anchorage and officially started my (albeit modest) coffee/tea tour of the country a couple years ago. A friend and I checked in at the Ramada Downtown, slept off the slightly turbulent plane ride and then headed to the Kobuk Coffee Company very early the next morning. We were only going to be there a couple days and we didn't want to be on the go the whole time, so we chose a couple go-to's and this place alone made our trip totally worth it! Nina was unpacking some new porcelain that I of course fell in love with and she answered my jillion questions about the area. Mike was making the most incredible donuts I'd ever smelled and we got to taste them warm! It was heavenly, and his tidbits about Anchorage history and the family stories behind the Kobuk added to the charming local experience. Did I mention the coffee? Excellent, and I'm really more of a tea drinker! Their lines of tea and coffee, serving ware, cards and magnets make it easy and affordable to put together a few unique Kobuk gift bags for people back home. If you have one must-stop on your list in Anchorage and you're attracted to history AND want a wonderful local experience with some family flavor, the Kobuk Coffee Company is it.
The coffee shop is located in a great old building, which shows you what most of the buildings in Anchorage must have looked like once. The coffee shop itself is small but well stocked with pastries and serves good coffee but the building is much more than a coffee shop. It is an interesting gift shop with many local products. Service was friendly and efficient and is worth visiting whether when visiting Anchorage - if you are going on a Princess cruise, it is just across the road from the convention centre.
