Got into town and asked the Hilton Concierge for a recommendation for a grocery store. They all said the New Sagaya Market. We picked up a number of things for our week in Anchorage, but we also wanted to get dinner for the first evening. We had fresh Poke made at the fresh fish market and some pastries from the bakery. Everything was very good, and the staff was very friendly. We also bought some smoked, jarred king, and coho salmon. Both of those jars were delicious. If we are back in Anchorage, we will head back to the market.
Great place for many reasons. This particular visit was to sit down with a friend have a cup of coffee and conversation. Try them out open at 7am for that early cup of coffee.
My only complaint about this place are the prices and that they don’t sell wine. I’m usually coming here for last minute items I forgot to get from Fred Meyers or something I need just before guests arrive. Don’t expect super friendly service, but no one is ever rude, they do their job, which I’m fine with. The produce is fresh and the prepared food is nice. They usually have items that you can’t find elsewhere. Just call ahead and ask if they have what you need before heading over. They usually will find out for you.
A great neighborhood store where you can pick up last minute items, daily staples, seafood or unusual and unique ethnic foods. Thanks New Sagaya for continuing to be part of this great neighborhood!
Beautiful little neighbourhood grocery store.
Terrible quality deli food. I bought two containers of noodles with shrimp for 11 dollars a pound. One package had two pieces of shrimp in it, and the other had none. How do you sell something labeled with shrimp, and then put no shrimp in it? The macaroni salad tasted like it was strained through a sweaty sock.
Really pricey, but great selection for such a small store. Lots of stuff you wouldn't find at Walmart or Fred Meyer. Daily pastries are AWESOME!!!
Overpriced, with a horrible and rude staff. Then again not many places in anchorage have very friendly service, if you aren't treated bad, you are treated indifferently. But this place looks down on it's customers, definitely didn't feel welcome and with these prices I don't think I'll ever shop here again.

The pro's are: Great grocery market with a nice salection of a variety of wholesome quality foods.The cons are customer management at the register. There has been many times I approach the cashier place my groceries on the cashier's conveyor belt, then wait for the conversation my cashier is having with a coworker about non job related details I have experienced this from everyone who works there as a cashier, other times from one cashier in particular I am owned and struggle to be allowed a mutual communication do to the cashier bossing me around telling me normal things in a abnormal manner, such as if I want a bag, I say no I get one anyway, I say yes this one cashier in particular will give me a bag while asking me again if I want a bag even though I clearly said yes, the cashier wasn't paying attention to what I have to say, today this cashier pressured the payment process to be rushed as always then took the card reader away when it was not done prossessing then turned it back over to me once the cashier learns I still had to put my pin in at this point I was rushed to take my card out before I put my pin in as the payment was still in process, so I then put my pin # I'n and the card reader gave a error code saying chip read error, probably from being rushed through the process, as this happens the store phone rings half of one ring and the cashier stops my transaction completely taking on the phone and yelling for a coworker to come and talk about what ever the phone call was about.And that's it I walked out with no groceries I didn't want to spend another 5 minutes of being rushed and ignored by my cashier. This was about 30-35 minutes prior to writing this review. Idk about everyone else but I can't help but give up on this place I believe the customer at the register should be shown the equivalent amount of priority as the customer on the phone or writing a review as a priority over personal conversations or just out rite owning the customer and only showing a value to the business of the customers shopping experience.
