Excellent food, top-notch service, cute atmosphere. We have been visiting Cafe Amsterdam for years and have never had a less than excellent experience. I know that the owners have a strict masking policy in place, but the food and service make this small courtesy more than worth it. I 100% recommend this place! We love it!
This place is fantastic. I have been coming for years. The customer service is outstanding. Yes, they currently require masks to be worn when you are not eating. Its a small thing and by no means will keep me away from delicious food. They also have an amazing selection of Beers from Belgium. Not to be missed!
Best Bloody Mary's in town. We were met at the door with clear mask directions. This did not deter us from a delicious breakfast. Our favorite breakfast place!
The entrance was blocked with a sign when we arrived / the owner immediately came outside and said we had to wear masks to enter and to pull them down only when taking a bite or a sip. We decided to go someplace else to eat.
Cafe was near our hotel, came up as a highly rated diner. Walked over during peak breakfast time on a Sunday morning, place looked empty, first warning sign. Big sign and a stubborn lady blocking the door, telling us we had to mask up to enter and between breakfast bites. We left of course. Found the City Diner, which was packed. Great breakfast there.
The owner was guarding the door when we arrived to the empty restaurant this morning. She would only allow us to enter if we agreed to wear masks and only pull them down to take a bite or a sip. If this is the "new normal" then I don't want any part of it. We moved on to a different restaurant.
Service is average, they still enforce wearing a mask and remind you to keep it on unless you are eating or sipping your coffee. I was there on may 19 2022, been there many times, most likely the last time. I had the feeling that the waitress was acting like a prison guard, watching that you cover your face or else....Very unpleasant. Same waitress there for years, not a friendly person. This is a popular place here in Anchorage, but in my opinion, they need to hire some younger kids with enthusiasm if they want to attract people. I have not seen anyone hanging out at the big bar that they have....This place is in a mini mall, kind of drab looking.
I love this restaurant! When we moved to Alaska & lived in a small town for the first five years we always visited because it reminded me of places back home. Haven’t had a chance to be back since the pandemic began and today seemed like the right day. Life has been a bit tough & treating ourselves to a quiet breakfast was our goal. I loved the sign. It made me smile. I had my mask on as I entered but could not see my partner because he was behind me. I didn’t know he forgot his mask and he had taken a complimentary one from the sign - thank you for providing masks. As I entered, I was immediately accosted, angrily and so rudely that it made my heart race and my face flush. It hurt. I wear masks every day and have continued to do so throughout the pandemic and the ongoing variants. I agree with continued mask mandates. I am triple vaccinated and when traveling recently needed to present my vaccination card - happily did so. I did not know that the person with me had his mask on but ears not fully looped. Think he masked as he entered? He is an adult so I don’t “manage” him. Not great, but definitely not a gesture that should invite such hostility. What I wish I would have done is found the right words to convey to the owner that her approach was almost traumatizing. Everyone is struggling with things in their lives and there’s no need to be awful to people. We tried to tell her that wasn’t the way to treat people and she said we “couldn’t work together.” It’s okay. I have compassion and understanding for how this pandemic may have created her fierce feelings. But, it was shockingly mean. And I will never forget it. Ken, it may be time to strategize with your co-owner on how best to manage front of house in a way that protects your staff & other patrons without being abusive. We support your mask policies. We hope your business thrives because we do love it. Sending you our love even though today was a painful experience. Wishing everyone health, wealth and happiness. Be well. ?
Seriously. Read the other reviews about the crazy hostile lady who says she is the owner and guards the door from the adjacent bar like a junkyard dog. Disrespectful, hostile, and bizarre behavior about wearing masks for Covid. Can’t see that it’s really about Disease prevention since she is in your face about two feet away within moments. We stopped and read the sign, affixed masks as we entered but not good enough. Really. If you want an unpleasant confrontation and maybe entertainment, this is the place. If a review counts for anything, if having a nice meal in a nice environment is your goal; REALLY: look elsewhere.
Good decor. Good food. Woman who sat me and took food order was nice. These low reviews are about masks stuff. The sign says keep mask opinions outside so I will.
