I know it is trite to call a business an institution but the Arctic roadrunner truly is an Anchorage Alaska institution. This business goes back to the 1960s and if you have any doubts about it’s authenticity just look at the pictures on the wall. There are hundreds of pictures of Arctic roadrunner customers, many of them featuring the owner. BTW this business is still in the family. You can also find pictures of the original location when the restaurant was still in a small trailer. This is all very cool, but even better, the food is awesome. There are excellent beef burgers cooked to order. They feature a salmon burger that my wife loves and a halibut burger that I love. The homemade onion pieces are superb. I often stop in just to get an order of them. And during the summer months this year they have featured a homemade blackberry shake that is absolutely out of this world! They have a delightful outside eating area that is right on Campbell Creek. Great for summer outings with the family. This restaurant has it all. One important note! They only take CASH!
This place has decent burgers. Don't expect fast food prices or particularly fast service. The burgers are OK. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is next to Chester Creek and the Old Seward Highway, so it's a mixed experience. The condiment bar wouldn't win any sanitation awards. The fries are not as crisp and fresh as they should be. In this day and age, it's at best weird, that they only accept cash. The place across the Old Seward Highway is better.
Everything.Best Burger placein town.
While they do offer sandwiches that are not beef, this restaurant is all about the burgers. In addition, they have great shakes. remember, they do not do checks or credit cards. It is cash only.
Had a Kenai Burger and it was the best burger that I have eaten in years!
Artic Roadrunner, an authentic Alaskan staple open since the sixties. I can tell you right when I walked in I thought one word, "Wow." The atmosphere and decoration is absolutely phenomenal. The old timey register where you order brings you back in time. And all the photos and memorabilia from the years make this place feel like home. And the food oh my it does not dissapoint. I got the Kenai Whopper with bacon, large fries, the onion rings, and the homemade onion rings (which are incredible). After we ordered all that food we went over to the condiment bar where they have hot pickles and normal pickles you can self serve and all the ketchup and mustard you could ever want. Once our food was done I couldn't believe how much was there was. It was a whole feast I didn't think I would be able to eat it all. But when it came too it, the food was so good I just couldn't stop eating. And after the fact I even got an oreo milkshake, creamy goodness in a cup with oreo chunks mixed in. The decor and atmosphere is top notch, food is great, and service fast. What more could you want from your favorite local food spot? An alaskan staple that everyone should try.
Location is cash only. The food portions are fantastic and quite delicious. I recommend the Kenai double burger with a side of fries. Burgers are cooked to perfection and smothered with toppings. Don't forget to load up on the free toppings. Their homemade pickles are wonderful. Fantastic place for some really great food.
An amazing experience as always, been many times and never been disappointed. Note that this place is cash only, however there is an ATM present. It's counter service, and drinks are self serve, but the staff is nice and the kitchen is fast. The onion pieces are amazing (don't get the rings, they're frozen rather than handmade like the pieces) and the western burger remains my favorite.
This is a great old time burger joint with so much Alaska history, captured in and around. The food is as fantastic.as the atmosphere. Make sure to bring cash as they do not accept credit cards. This is one way they pass the savings to you.
Great burgers & variety of sandwiches, great home-fried onion rings, great shakes, fun atmosphere, relaxing window or outdoor seating view of flowing creek. A definite must when in Anchorage.
