Great hotcakes and biscuits however, the steak is nothing but gristle... Unfortunately, they are struggling to keep up. Arrived at 0935 seated at 1100, and was told it was a 30 minute wait. At the time of this review I'm still waiting on my food at 1155!!!!!! Our drinks have been empty for over 30 minutes. I love supporting family owned busines but they need a lesson in service and running a restaurant. They would be better off hiring a manager from McDonald's to educate them in operation and how to manage a business!!! None of my family will be back. If Broken Egg is too busy you're better off going to the waffle house!
I usually opt for toast over biscuits, but decided to try them since they seemed to be a popular item. They didn't disappoint. Some of the best biscuits I've ever had. The bacon was thick and crispy, grits and homefries were both delicious.
The food here was excellent! We had a great full breakfast. The potatoes were great, as were the eggs and grits (the cheese grits are very worth it). I had the country ham, which was deliciousThe seating is a pretty cramped, and parking is difficult. The food is great, but there are issues due to the location
Visited this quaint, well worn dining establishment on a sunny spring morning at the beginning of April. A party of two, my father and I were greeted by a spry middle aged gentleman with a southern drawl and a friendly smile who took or name and informed of a short few minutes wait to be seated as every table was occupied when we arrived. When we were called, we were told to pick any available open table. A wall table with two chairs is where we took our seats. After perusing the menus and placing our orders (I got scrambled eggs, grits, side of sliced tomatoes ?, all you can eat biscuits and coffee) then we waited. I thought it rather odd that even though we were seated rather close to our fellow diners you couldn’t really hear their conversations. Perhaps it’s the table manners of the predominantly native southern crowd or just the fact that we were an anomaly in the room that morning. That being said, the wait was not long. I’m guessing 10-12 minutes later the food arrived. In the middle of the table went a plate of some of the softest, flakiest, tasty but rather small biscuits for the table to share. 4 different types of sweet condiment accoutrements are on the tables alongside the salt, pepper, syrup, and sweeteners for your coffee should you so choose. The scrambled eggs were soft to medium set. The amount of butter in the grits was a little too much of a good thing but being able to see the cook from where I was seated I knew that the preparation was a labor of love. The service was excellent as one would expect from the type of establishment you would find in a John Grisham novel set in the mid 1900’s. I could come back in ten years and would know exactly what to expect when I arrived.
this was a nice place, server was outstanding, the biscuits (not shown in the photo) were the best, the rest was average. the other items on the menu could be very goodthis is a place to see the memorabilia on the walls & local hangout
first time trying this place today. Great food! great service! friendly staff! My only complaint would be that i feel the prices are a bit high. However good quality comes at a price. TRULY HOME COOKED FOOD! Will definitely be back to try some other menu items!
Excellent fresh breakfast in this tiny house of cheer. Highly recommend it. Especially the pancakes with butter & syrup.
Loved eating here. If you are a Bama fan, you will to!! Food was great!! Atmosphere was great!! Service was amazing!! A lot of history in this building. A little issue finding the parking. You have to turn on 24th Avenue, then a right on 16th Street, then right on 25th Avenue to get to the back parking, but it was all good in the end. ?
When you think of breakfast in Tuscaloosa the 1st place that comes to mind is the Waysider... always great food ! Cozy, friendly atmosphere that has been a Tuscaloosa favorite as long as I can remember. Made from scratch biscuits. cheese grits. Country ham and redeye gravy. Hot coffee. Friendly servers. This is NOT a fast food or franchise establishment ! It is a one-of-a-kind, can't be imitated gem. Lunch is great also. If you haven't been here you are really missing out. HIGHLY recommend Linda's home cooking at the Waysider.
The BEST place in town for good, southern cooking. I always feel like I am back in my grandmothers kitchen when I taste their biscuits! They have quick service and friendly, smiling staff!
