Walked into the restaurant and sat down for 20 minutes. No menu, no water, and no service. Several people walked in after and were greeted and made to feel at home. After 20 minutes my family left and no one said a thing as though we were invisible. I can’t remember the last time my family was treated this badly.
I 1st ate here over 20 years ago when the only thing they served was ribs. Loved it then and I loved it today. This is the original location. It is full ofull of character and delicious smells. When you sit down you will be handed a basket of white bread and barbecue sauce as an appetizer. If it's your 1st time you gotta get the ribs. That's what put them on the map. Good stuff I'll definitely be back :)
It is very tasty. But Unprofessional service, rude employee, one of the servers was really so bad doing her job and so rude to customers. As we just ordered the small amount of food, she felt very angry. We didn’t finish food yet, she started to take our plate away. We were still chatting, she started to push us leave by taking our cups away. As a famous local restaurant, you just damaged its good image. Customers should never be treated depending on how much they order.Me and my friends won’t come back again, also tell my friends around me not to go, worst service experience ever!
I wanted the original location. I was greeted at the door and told to sit where I like. I chose the add on section. The menu is available digitally as well. I enjoyed the appetizer which is bread and bbq sauce. We had the half slab, potato salad, baked beans and the Mac n cheese was divine. I had to try the banana pudding. It was heavenly. I really enjoyed the environment, history and sweet tea.
We got one of everything and it was delicious! My faves were the sausage and potato salad with the mac’n cheese being a close contender. The only thing missing was corn bread! The decor is out-of-this-world! Definitely a hidden gem in Tuscaloosa!
Worst experience I had with a BBQ so far. Compared to Outback or Rib City not even close as it goes to quality, taste, and cleanliness. We paid $80 including a nicely meant tip to compensate the inflation a little. I shouldn’t have paid a single penny. The server was unmotivated and the food made all of us sick. Stay away from this place!
This was our first time here (party of 2) and the food was great. The service was poor. We ordered within a few minutes of sitting down. Maybe 10 minutes after placing our order with our server, he came back to ask if we had ordered yet.4 tables came in after us. They had their orders taken and were served their food before us.Almost a full hour later, we were still waiting for our order. Eventually, we had to walk up and ask our server where our food was because he never came back to our table.A few minutes later, I told him that we’ve been waiting an hour and everyone else in the place that came in after us has been served their food. I asked what he would do to make the situation right and his response was to deflect blame to the kitchen without giving me an answer. When our food finally came out, it wasn’t anything close to what we had ordered. So we had to wait again.I understand that people have bad days and mistakes happen. But I would expect that a restaurant with prestige and such a positive reputation would make more of an effort to do right by their customers when they fumble the ball. The food was great but I’m not inclined to come back because of how we were treated, which is a shame.
Ribs definitely weren't as tender as I would have liked but meaty and hot and sauce was very good...a little spicy, a little sweet, a little sour. Place is a real hole in the wall, it would be nice if they tried to make it more appealing.
We visited Dreamland while in the area. Our ribs and chicken were really good, as were the sides. We had friendly service and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Definitely a hidden gem, the definition of a shack. Amazing slabs of ribs with a great, spicy BBQ sauce to go with them. The smoked sausage was nice and crispy, and the white bread paired perfectly with the sauce. The sides and banana pudding were very good, and the atmosphere is amazing. Very fun and unique place to go to when you are in Tuscaloosa.
