Great pricesFood was just ok, kinda blandHad scrambled eggs, grits, waffle, pancake, sausage, and salmon pattiesWe usually love salmon and salmon patties... I could smell the fish before she put the plate on table. Very strong. Neither of us could eat.
Susie K's is as close to a friendly home cooked breakfast you can get.My initial impression was this dingy little single room diner with little effort. The menu felt uninspired and hard to read, but the food choices were pretty straightforward with a tasty special choice of salmon. The staff looked pretty young, but they were insanely polite and worked really hard to keep people both young and old happy. My waiter particularly did her best at keeping up the smile and answered my questions easily. The food itself was delicious and for $20 for two people, I got a lot of it.I would honestly pick this place over Cracker Barrel anytime.
Most importantly they don’t serve breakfast after 10:30am & I didn’t see that posted anywhere until I arrived to disappointment. Idk why any type of food on the menu is limited by time restrictions but this seems to be a new cultural norm that didn’t exist when growing up in the south & I strongly disapprove. The south is home to 24 hour breakfast for goodness sakes. Regardless I decided to eat anyway. Staff was kind; but very new, so despite not having a pleasant first impression, I’ll probably try again. So many good reviews before my arrival surly can’t be wrong. I had the hamburger steak. It was cooked perfectly, but lacked seasoning. I was surprised that the turnips were sweet, but they were still good. The Mac-n-cheese tasted much better than its appearance would give it credit for. The cornbread is dry which caused me to drink all my excellent tasting sweet tea before finishing my meal & I had to go ask for a refill after I finished eating everything else. I was also very interested in a dessert; but never found out what kind they have, nor was I asked if I wanted any. So since I never received my check either, I just walked up to the register tired of waiting. I was only charged a small amount that I can only assume was the correct amount. Everyone including me has days where nothing goes right, so I’m just going to assume that’s what happened & check it out again later.
Just a bad experience overall. I stopped in for a quick breakfast as my phone said it was a good place to eat. The restaurant was relatively empty. The table I wanted to sit at was dirty so they sent me to the one next to it. Then a couple with a little baby came in and they sent them right next to me with the baby 2 feet from me. Remember this is an empty restaurant. I then asked for my food to go. The eggs were not cooked properly, the sausage was cold and dry, the bacon was greasy. The help was behind the counter, all of them eating, I bet their food was fine. You’ll never get another dollar for me.
My wife and I took two out-of-town relatives to Susie K’s for Sunday Breakfast. We enjoyed the atmosphere, and were hoping that we had found a good breakfast place close to our house. However, we had several problems with the quality of the food and the service (apart from the server, who was delightful).First, the server came back to the table twice to tell us that items we ordered (strawberries for pancakes and biscuits) were not available, the second time well after we had ordered. While running out of food is part of running restaurants, I would not expect this around 9am and when the restaurant is at low capacity. I would also expect that shortages would be communicated very promptly.Despite the restaurant being about 1/4 full, we waited an excessive amount of time for our food. When it did arrive, it came piecemeal, with several minutes between each the arrival of each persons order, and part of our meals coming almost after the rest of the meal was finished. With one exception (below), the food quality wasn’t that good — my wife and I commented that we could make the same with better quality at home. The grits were particularly bad, as they were runny and slimy, which the restaurant seemed to realize as they brought complementary potatoes as a replacement without being prompted. The exception was the cinnamon roll pancake, which our table agreed was very good. Overall, I am giving two stars: one for the server, and one for the cinnamon roll pancakes. However, I do not see us returning to this restaurant.
Their food is usually great. If you can get it. I ordered to go. Waited waited waited. 30 minutes go by and I walk up to the counter and they started scooping everything off their cook line and the order was still wrong. This is not the first time. I won't be back. I gave it another chance and still disappointed.
Almost left becuase of the wait time but stayed becuase of their delicious chocolate milk :) this was the first time I even heard of this place.. it's very unnassuming on the outside but with a hint of charm. Good food as well. Staff seemed nice enough and I love supporting small business. I would say if there's any improvement this place needs it's maybe having someone at front to greet and the wait time. Will be back though definately!
The food was ok, had the bfast, I have been told that lunch is better, waitress was awesome, friendly and helpful, it is inexpensive carb load food.
My husband and I had lunch there on a Tuesday afternoon. We had fried chicken and two yummy sides. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The waitress was so sweet and attentive. We will be back.
My wife and I ordered a couple of items for lunch on Sunday and were very satisfied with the quality and pricing of the food. The chopped steak and loaded fries were great...in addition the lemon cake was very tasty. I recommend Susie's and will be returning again soon.
