The first time we ate there it was amazing!! However, we just ate there again over the weekend and it was not so great. My wife's order was overcooked (Halibut) and it was the feature of the day and she said the smashed potatoes did not have any seasoning. My son got the steak taco's and he said they were good except for the Pico....something tasted funny with it. Mine was good for the most part except when I got down to eating the last medallion it was cold.

Really nice fancy restaurant. Clean modern interior design. Comfy booths. Pricing is actually pretty decent for an upscale "fancy" restaurant. Burger about $18. Steak around $40'ish. We were very pleased with the large portion sizes and the food tasted good. Our server was a bit rough around the edges, but fine. Very busy place, would probably recommend calling ahead for reservations if possible.

Typically, I usually stick with what I know. This review is SOLELY based on the meal of choice. The waitress was excellent and the atmosphere is nice- not as good as the one in Chattanooga however. The steak tacos were not good at all. Literally, no flavor. I tasted mostly lettuce and cheese with every unseasoned piece of steak. Stick with the Steak Maui....

Food was great, service was impeccable, definitely make a reservation. We celebrated my birthday and they even had a signed card for me!We had the fire grilled artichokes, salads, steaks, and the carrot cake. Our server made drink recommendations based on our tastes and was spot-on.

Fantastic experience! The waitress assisting my froup when we went went above and beyond, super friendly, helpful, and great to talk to!I ordered a filet mignon, and for dessert, their infamous carrot cake I've heard so much about. Steak was a delicious cut and a perfect medium rare to what I'd ordered, but the carrot cake? Definitely lived up to the hype, no doubt about that!

I’ve eaten at other J. Alexander’s before so I knew what to expect and it was spot on. First off, this place is beautiful. The design is really great with high ceilings and lots of space. The bar is in the center is is really great. Food is awesome. Recommend giving it a try!

The shrimp appetizer started out between hot and cold, so my family asked for it to be warmer, and it was solid. I wanted the burger I ordered to be plain, but they put the toppings on it and I asked them to fix that. When they did, it ended up being one of the best burgers I've ever tasted. I'd imagine if anyone goes to this place, they'd have a blast.

Years ago, we dined at J Alexanders frequently when we lived in another city. We were very excited to learn that they were coming to the area and dropped by earlier this week for our first visit. We found the staff to be very friendly, the reservation process efficient (the printed tab for the table seemed a well thought out approach) and the overall service level good in the busy restaurant at 6:30. The building is impressive and seems well designed to handle crowds. I suspect some of the other full menu restaurants in the area wish they had this kind of space.I ordered an "Alex" salad to start and it was well presented and included a good variety of ingredients. I paused from my attack to capture a pic which is attached (it was prettier before I started). As we learned throughout the course of the meal, the portions are generous, and it can be easy to over order. As it turns out, we both ordered the pecan encrusted trout. We found it to be delicious and it was served in good style. It normally comes with coleslaw as the side, and I chose to substitute the orzo mixture instead. I wish my server had mentioned that the trout came on a big portion of flavored rice, and I would have reversed that substitution. Anyway, the rice, slaw and orzo were all delicious. You can see all three in the pictures attached. I was left with some envy of the guy who caught these nice sized trout! Ha ha!My wife and I were full from our dinner, evening taking home leftovers, but could not resist sharing a piece of the carrot cake. It is sheet pan style rather than stacked, seemed to be about 25% pure butter, and was served nice and warm. As the picture shows, it is a generous portion like everything else. Even if I didn’t like everything else I consumed (all of which I really enjoyed!), I would be drawn back just to have another piece of this heavenly dessert!I would have preferred paper napkins to supplement the cloth napkin for a place to set my service pieces before the plates arrive. If the bare table is scrupulously clean, or covered, these don’t seem necessary. I did notice a little residue along my table edge from a previous patron. The service manager checked in on our table during the meal and seems highly experienced and well trained. Based on experience at other area restaurants, we can only hope that the service level and overall performance of this location survives in current form after the training crew goes home and the locals take over.Total cost of our meal for two with one salad, one dessert, two mid-priced entrees and no alcohol was just over $100 with tip.I look forward to my next meal at J Alexanders.

If you haven’t been GO! The food and service were both AMAZING! 5 stars from our family! Also if you have never had their French press coffee it’s absolutely delicious. I never go eat there without ordering it. We use to drive to the one in Franklin, TN. So glad we have our own now so close to home.

The legendary New Orleans food critic and editor of Menu magazine Tom Fitzmorris had a rule about dining in a new restaurants. The rule was never go to a new establishment until at least 6 months of operation Unfortunately I broke that rule and am sorry I did.It wasn't a great experience and it was expensive($100.00) for a Thursday lunch.J.Alexander's was recently sold to SPB for 220 million dollars and my fear is the service, food quality will suffer. The old J.Alexander's outfitted the service staff with starched white waiter jackets and long black aprons reminiscent of a Parisan brassiere. Not now!The Food!1It just missed the mark. The beef steak tomatoes ? were not ripened and totally tasteless (See pic).Instead of bringing tomatoes with olive oil and wine vinegar to the table only few drops came from the kitchen. The clam chowder was tasty although tepid in temperature.Wait staff incorrectly heard my request for a shrimp Ceasars Salad and initially brought just a plain one. The shrimp on the salad were skimpy. I thought 5 or 6 ten to the count prawns would adorn $26.00 salad but no dealMy dining partner ordered a burger which was just ok.She was convinced it was pre cooked and finished over the grill when ordered Please tell me that isn't so.French fries were shoestring and probably frozen. FINAL COST WITHOUT WINE OR DESSERT $100 00 GRATUITY INCLUDEDHopefully my next visit is better.Good is Good where ever found. This is another Tom Fitzmorris New Orleans truism..
