Amazing food and great service
If you don't get one of these food items from this place in your lifetime, you have missed out on an amazing culinary experience. It is a total mouth orgasm eating one of these dogs and their fried sushi. What a great food culture blend.
It was ok. The hot dog was alright. I liked the flavor of the Volcano Dog, but it wasn't spicy. Sushi was decent. Avoid the fries. I might try it again.
It’s absolutely delicious! Get the surf n Turf!
The best bang for your buck, the food looks exactly like the pictures, and their food is so delicious I came back the same day and ordered more.
Finally got our shot to try out New South! This truck has been practically everywhere coverage-wise lately; there's a great article on al.com talking about the story behind the truck (well, trailer, technically) and Albert Toh, the owner and chef. Check it out before you visit (or after, hehe). As you can tell by the name...they do hot dogs. And sushi. But not the ordinary kind of either -- these are incredibly creative, speciality hot dogs, and similarly ingenious deep fried sushi rolls! The combinations sound so cool and decadent and unique, but I was a little gun-shy this time and wanted to get a baseline feel for how good the sausages themselves are. So I wound up with a plain hot dog and dressed it myself with ketchup (I know, I know, I am a big baby who doesn't know good food. It's how I like them, so sue me.). Boyfriend got a chili cheese dog with onions and we shared some fries.I'll tell you now, these are some solid hot dogs, even without the extra fixings. Large, juicy, super flavorful all beef dogs with pillowy, perfectly steamed buns that somehow hold up to a mighty amount of pressure -- even the chili cheese dog couldn't break them! I did venture a bite of boyfriend's chili cheese dog, and it had a great ratio of toppings and the chili was tasty. The fries were just okay, but fries are hardly the point of this truck. Service was friendly and our meal came out in a reasonable length of time.Overall, really solid hot dog trailer even for just the average, standard fare, American-style dog. Looking forward to plucking my courage up sometime over the summer to try something a little more adventurous.
I had been looking forward to trying New South Hot dog for a while now and they did not disappoint. The hot dogs are very unique and I urge you to step out of your comfort zone and try one of the sushi inspired hot dogs. My husband had the Chicago dog which was great and I had the surf and turf with eel sauce added and it was insane (in a Good way). You get the nice snap of the hot dog combined wit the deliciousness of a California roll. I might ask for a side of ginger with it next time. We also ordered the tiger king roll, and even my sushi purist husband (no fried and only raw) enjoyed it.We are looking forward to trying the other menu options!
