If I could give a 0, I would. Sat for an hour and still no drinks. Brought out drinks and order was wrong. Margarita was served in a water glass. Soup came out cold. We gave up and won’t be back. Service and food is bad. They are understaffed and current staff can’t pull it off. Bad experience.
I don't like to make reviews like this. However, the food was extremely bad tonight. When we walked in, no one seated us. We eventually went up to the bartender behind the bar to ask for seating options. They said to sit anywhere. The tables were all dirty. We sat at a dirty table and asked the waiter to clean the water off of it. Once we ordered, our food was the worst part. The rice was raw for the salmon dish - completely inedible. The plates were very hot (microwaved). The steak we ordered was rare not medium. I usually do not complain about food but this was the one case where it could not be excused. I asked the waiter to bring the rice back to the chef and all they did was send me some additional rice. Staff never apologized for the horrible food. I didn't have the energy to complain tonight. I was too tired from my trip. This was my father's day meal for my dad. Extremely disappointed.
Merk's Tavern & Kitchen located at 1000 Riverchase Galleria, Birmingham, AL was exceptional in service every day that I visited while my stay at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham-Wnyfrey Hotel. I was blessed to meet two wonderful ladies. One was a greeter and the other was the cook. The bartender was wonderful. I am blessed to meet them and hope to visit again. One of the ladies would ask me "How are you doing?" All I could say was "STUFFED." The food was delicious, hot, and worth every penny. I loved every minute of my visit with the staff or owners of Merk's Tavern & Kitchen.
The French Onion soup is the best I’ve ever had !!!
The food tastes great! However, it is the slowest service I've ever had. At one point they closed and locked the doors because they could not handle a full dining area. Don't expect this place to be open much longer if they don't train the front of the house.

Hearty portions. Tasty Bbq brisket nachos were huge although made with potato chips not corn chips. Our caesar salads were again tasty and quite large. The french onion soup was in a large crock while the broth was mediocre it was loaded with cheese. Service was excellent, but we were the second of only two parties in there.
