We found this place to be a mixed bag but overall worth a try. The food and service were good, and the prices were the among the most affordable we’ve found around. Rocco’s gets extra points for the atmosphere as well. It feels somehow familiar and comfortable, like a memory. There are only two real drawbacks. The first being that the place simply isn’t very big. Not a deal breaker by any means but it can be a bit tight. The other is that they are very busy and do not have much staff so they can be slow. They actually do a really good job, but can’t be everywhere at once.
1st time here from Louisiana. Was a great atmosphere with love music. The service was very handsome and great. Lol. It was a girls trip that we took. And will be back for sure.
We went for pizza here twice while on our trip. First night when we drove in, and second time with some friends. I like the fact that they stay open later, while I found most places in Gulf Shores/Orange beach close at 9p?? We have teenagers and prefer to eat a little later and miss the early dinner crowd. It is very small atmosphere, a "dive" which is fine with me. They had a live musician both nights we went which was also nice. We did have a bit of a wait, but you can sit outside. The parking lot is small, but a very nice man sat in the parking lot and helped us park (both times)--very helpful in a small lot. I got pizza both times which was good, my husband got one of the sandwiches which he also liked. We got cheese bread, stuffed mushrooms and potato skins (just ok). The only 2 issues I had were both times, our waitress (different each time) were not friendly. Very curt in their manner of dealing with people. The second issue, we had 8 people on the second night and she told us she could not split the check between 2 families-"its stated on the menu"--ok that is fine. She brings the one check and we just asked could she just half it down the middle so $200, put $100 on this card and $100 on this card--NOPE--can't do it! Just very rude about it all.
Smaller place than I thought it would be. Heard a lot of great things and a must stop place. Sat quick, and drinks were back on table quick. The server was busy but efficient. Food was good.
This place is so highly rated and I don’t get it. We waited in line for 20+ minutes only to find ourselves crammed into this tiny restaurant that doesn’t exactly scream clean. The simple Cesar I ordered was even sun-par. The wait staff was very friendly though.
We went to the Gulf Shores location looking for great pizza, unfortunately the food was just OK. We arrived and they were very busy, the parking was a bit cramped, not sure if there was an overflow lot but not a real issue, The wait was not real long, so no problem there. The website said music starts at 7:00 PM but the waitress said it starts at 8:00 PM. So we almost heard one song. I say almost because we could barely hear the guy singing, we were at the table farthest from him. However the place is not that big. The waitress was fine, she was there if we needed anything. The food was just OK, we ordered the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. That was really good, it did appear that they emptied the bag of chips in our bowl as there were a lot of crumbs and not many whole chips. Now we ordered pizza my wife got a small Papa Deluxe, now she doesn't eat the crust and it was a good thing, the crust was very undercooked, actually wet/doughy. I had a large Pepperoni, Sausage, Onion, G Pepper. It tasted OK, nothing to write home about. My crust was not doughy but very soggy near the center. I will look for a different pizza place the next time
This is our go to place for pizza whenever we are visiting Gulf Shores. The kids literally beg to go here. We always eat a light lunch and then go here for an early dinner. It’s best to try to get there around 4ish to beat the crowd. They are a popular spot and have live music some nights so parking can get a little tricky the later you go, but that’s how most places are here during vacation season. Our food is always amazing and this time was no different. We love the wide selection of items on the menu. They have plenty of tables if you choose to dine in and lots of seating at the bar. They are known for their raw oysters, if that’s your sort of thing. They also sell pretty cool Papa Rocco t-shirts in a variety of colors.
I had a really bad experience with Papa Rocco's, could've been worse. I found what looks to be a spring or some type of foreign object in my food that I bit into(it had my tooth hurting a bit) you can see in one of the photos it looks like it was baked into the crust. I tried to contact the restaurant but got no answer, I left a voice mail but haven't received a call back. I am relieved that it was me that bit into that slice and not my 4 or 6 year oldUpdate: I went in today and talked to a manager, he refunded me for the one pizza with the spring and gave me a apology. I feel I should've been refunded for the entire order because half of my food wasn't eaten because we didn't feel comfortable eating anymore afterwards. As of now I'm just going to continue to enjoy my vacation and don't let this experience ruin it. But I will not be going back, I can't take a risk like that when it comes to my family.2nd update: another manager contacted me today.I told her the story and how I felt, she was very nice and apologized for what happened to us. She wanted to replace my order(but I'm no longer in the area) and I think she could tell i was a little hesitant. She said let us make this right, give us another shot, let me mail you a gift card. Just for their customer service I'm going to move them from 1* to 3*This could've just been one of those rare occasionsBTW, before the spring incident the pizza and wings was pretty good... I was mad as hell I couldn't finish it because of the issue.
My favorite restaurant in gulf shores. This place has excellent food. The pizza is the best I have had in the area, the burger was great, and the service was good. The only issue is the size, popularity and availability of parking. Basically it is a small place that is constantly packed, loud and has long waits. If you can get a parking spot they are close by, but more people are waiting outside typically than the amount of available parking. They did mess up my order one time a couple of years ago, basically they didn't hear one of my pizzas over the phone and there is such a long wait it wasn't worth waiting on them to cook it. Anyway if you don't mind waiting and being packed into a small space with tons of other people the food is great.
Great place too eat and the wait wasn’t too long. My boyfriend and I shared a buffalo chicken pizza that was absolutely to die for. Oysters were also tasty, but I found it odd that they weren’t served over ice. Would definitely come back.
