Come here for the oysters because that's what they do well here. Our server was awesome. Wanted to sit outside but they weren't seating it that day. Not many gluten-free options except for the jambalaya and red beans and rice other than oysters.
My wife and youngest son had the fish of the day, Mahi. It was very good as was everything else. This was a great dining experience, Roy was super friendly and helpful with deciding on dinner and dessert. The chocolate caramel pie was absolutely the best. Definitely recommend the Acme Oyster House. But I would go early, they get very busy because they are just that good.
We really wanted oysters and we have tried them many places in the Area. We thought surely that this restaurant which is known for oysters would have great ones. We were sadly disappointed. We sat at the bar and had planned to just eat oysters there and move to a table to order our food. We did enjoy talking to the Guy shucking the Oysters. He was very nice and entertaining. We ordered the char-grilled oysters which he said was the best. Yes it was in June, however the oysters were very very overcooked, dried out and tiny!! They were so tough and chewy I could not swallow a single bite. The worst oysters I have ever eaten anywhere! While waiting for our oysters we asked our server what kind of fish was on the Ponchatrain. We were told SWAI. I could not believe it. A seafood restaurant on the Gulf serving Farm Raised Viet Nam Fish. I said never mind. She said People make me sick claiming they don't eat that or tilapia just because they have heard it on TV that it isn't good. She got huffy. She said you can upcahrge to redfish. I am not a fan of red fish. I do like snapper, and flounder. So needless to say with her terrible attitude and the horrible oysters. We left and went to Big Mikes. Where we got delicious baked oysters and fresh Gulf Shrimp.
We were on vacation so we ended up going on Father's Day. We ended up waiting about 35 minutes. It did take a while to get our drinks and our food. But the waitress was very nice. We got the captain's Platter that is supposed to serve two. It was $45.99. I think if one of you has a small appetite it would feed two. On the bottom of the dishes four pieces of bread topped with a bunch of french fries you get two pieces of fish. We substituted the crab cake for the soft shell crab. It's basically all filler and not enough seafood. Because it's so much bread, french fries, onion rings, hush puppies, and then crawfish hush puppies. It's just not a lot of actual seafood. I would probably go with the individual platter next time it looks like you get more actual seafood. At least with the fish platter it looks like that.
Boo fries. Meat pies. Fried fish. Soft shell crab. Shrimp. Grilled fish. Had it all, & not a single thing disappointed in the slightest. We went late afternoon during a shift change & it was the perfect time before the big dinner crowds started pouring in. All the food came out HOT & delicious. The guys shucking oysters in the front bar area were super friendly & my 12 year old loved chatting with them & asking questions. There is a kids menu at the restaurant (which I didn’t see online so I thought pass on here!) & off the back patio there is a big sand pit with toys where the kids can run & play & get some energy out. Really loved Acme!
We ate here after it was recommended by our friends, and it worth the trip. We had a seafood platter that we split, and it was more than we could eat. Everything was delicious. I'll attach pictures so you can see the platter. If you want good seafood, this is a place to go!
Customer service was great. Beautiful building. I visited Acme in New Orleans and the food was so delicious. This location lacked seasoning. Oysters wasn't char-grilled. Lacked presentation period. Disappointed. I thought I was in for a treat like in New Orleans. Please let personnel from New Orleans location train employees here. So disappointed.
I came here upon recommendation from a local while at a different restaurant. They highly recommend trying the char grilled oysters- they are really great. The raw gulf oysters are giant and delicious, the cocktail sauce is out of this world. I was warned that the wait times are 1-2 hours, I went around 5pm on a Tuesday with a party of 9 and was sat immediately. The place was filing up by the time we were heading out, I would suggest going early to beat the crowd.
This place!! Sat at the bar, food was amazing! Service excellent! Have to say the pecan cobbler was a beast!! So good!! From Dallas but will definitely stop in when in town!!???? our server Nathan rocks!! And the rest of the guys at the bar!??
1st time , but I would definitely recommend this place great food and great atmosphere. We sat outside on the back deck, it was wonderful evening..
