The BEST homestyle food! If you plan to try this place get there early. It gets crowded fast.
Zack's is a cafeteria style comfort food joint. There is ALWAYS a line because the food is worth the wait, that being said, the wait is rarely ever more than 20 minutes. The prices are reasonable, the staff is always friendly, and I have never had a single bad item from the menu. They may also have the best sweet tea in town.Portions are large, and the selection is huge for a cafeteria style restaurant.Go, take the family, wait in the line, you can thank me later.
Great experience! We stopped on the way home from the beach to a unique school cafe style lunch grab! The owner brought over his fried green tomatoes for us to try since it was obvious that we did not have Alabama accents. All was delicious southern food! Would visit again!
I went on a Wednesday at 11:00 . I use a walker to get around. I parked on the grassy lot next door so I would have room to get my walker in and out. Hand rails made it easy to get in but the friendly staff rushed to assist me. There was only one waitress for the entire restaurant but she kept up remarkably well. She asked if I was going to dine in or carry out. I said dine in but my disability prevented me from standing in a long line. She offered to fill my order and bring it to the table for me. I ordered the broiled chicken breast, turnip greens, squash, cabbage and house salad with honey mustard dressing. I didn’t see coffee on the menu, when I asked about that the waitress said if I wanted coffee she would make a fresh pot. The food was awesome, the service was outstanding, I was there a leisurely 45 minutes and enjoyed everything about it.
The line was long and got longer as we stood there however the line moved super fast. Absolutely loved it!! When people finished eating the immediately got up and left, I didn't see anyone sitting and chatting.

Other diners are okay but Zacks is like eating at grandma's. Casual, friendly service and absolutely delicious food. I was pretty full from lunch but wanted seconds!
This may be the most"country" place I've ever been. Maybe. The entire staff are awesome, so, SO friendly- and patient with newbies. This food was so dang good! This is cafeteria style, you choose your meat-fried chicken, pot roast, chicken fried steak, etc., then 3 or 4 sides. Mac & cheese, creamed corn, green beans, greens, broccoli casserole, fried green tomatoes, candied yams, I think I saw some fried squash? Then either cheese biscuits or cornbread. Everything was so good! We went whole hog, since we were leaving the South for the summer. We highly recommend this place-come hungry!
I travel in my job and love to try new places. Especially look for mom and pop places to eat. Zacks is absolutely the best. The food is awesome. Staff is pleasant and attentive. Comfortable, nice and clean environment. Can see why it's number 1 in Alabama. Definitely will be back.
I can’t believe I’m giving them 2 stars but I can’t give them anything higher Based off my last experience a Friday again. Zacks use to be my favorite place to go especially on Fridays. That’s no longer the case I went last Fri called my order in catfish etc get there to pick it up oh it’s more cool no problem I’ve paid more for hibachi. Get home to find 3lil catfish that looked more like bass. I mean small baby bass I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I’ve never seen them serve catfish that size before. I’ve ordered from them countless times but to see that, those 3 baby catfish which I paid $14 for well I was beyond mad. I want be going back for a while that’s for sure
