Upscale sushi... Well prepared and good service 7/22... no complaints
2 stars because staff and food was good. Mitchell, the “Manager” was unprofessional and not accommodating whatsoever. We are from out of state, made reservations over a week ago and were told by Mitchell that no tables were available and our only option was 2 chairs at the sushi bar. He told me I SHOULD HAVE REQUESTED a table when I made reservations. How would I know that without being asked? He was so rude and blamed me, the customer for not requesting a table. No apologies for not asking when I called, nothing. For a manager of a nice restaurant, he was wearing jeans and a wrinkled shirt. Super tacky. So, we spent our time during dinner with servers reaching over us the entire time we ate our dinner. Great, hardworking staff but Mitchell was really awful…
Great service and good food. They have a gluten free menu and I have celiac, so it was safe for me. Definitely recommend if you want some good sushi.
Wow was Jinsei a treat! Friend and I stopped by Saturday night for dinner. We were there late around 8 and it was getting dark, but it felt like a very upscale establishment lol. We splurged on calamari and three sushi roles. The calamari was light and well cooked, though the dipping sauce was a hot chili oil instead of regular sauce for tempura. It was good but if I go again I’d definitely skip on the app and go straight for the rolls because that’s where they shined. The rolls are very inspired and interesting. Meat was tender. The Hamajiku (rum raisins, fig sauce) was like no sushi roll I’ve ever tried. Pretty good. But we loved the Sachihoko (eel/unagi) and the Hatsu (Kobe beef). They had more complex flavors that worked so well together, both rolls were incredible! We liked the Hatsu slightly more :)Food came quickly and service was great. Definitely recommend!
Everything! The service is amazing from everyone. My son Chef Hassan Gooden works there?
Cool atmosphere. The flank steak self searing on a hot rock was cool but the steak strips were thin and not many were present. Also the rock cools down decently quick. The sushi was honestly.. not what it could have been. The sushi rice was wet almost soggy. The ingredients tasted more mushy than anything, the flavors barely popped out. It was too expensive for the quality of the food. Location, the look of the place and seating was pretty modern which was nice.
One of the best sushi spots in Birmingham. You cannot get a bad roll at this place. All of their starters are excellent as well; I recommend the grilled edamame. Can’t say enough good things about Jinsei!
Philly roll was awesome. Best sushi I've had ever. Will return for more!
Cute place, decent sushi, place was absolutely empty and staff made very little attempt to service me or talk up the menu or make suggestions. They actually rushed me out the door. At one point one of the servers reached across my plate, as I was resting from eating to grab my chopstick wrapper. Nothing like rushing a paying customer out of your empty restaurant. I get staffing is short everywhere but I was actually shocked by the rudeness of the staff and chose not to stay for an additional drink.
Very nice atmosphere . Will be back again!
