This hotel is the host of the Southern Veterinary Conference every year. I have attended that meeting for years and I have always stayed at the Hyatt. This year really disappointed me. First of all my office manager booked my reservation couple months ahead. I had my confirmation number and traveled over 6 hours to arrive and find out my room had been sold !!! The poor girl up front had no support to handle all the angry customers. I asked for the manager and was told they were not present. Not a single manager and this is a big hotel and during a conference. We were sent to yet another hotel book in it and it wasn't the quality we had grown to expect there. The other two nights we did get our rooms, but they werent cleaned daily like they used to be. We were just handed our towels in the hall. There was a coffee pot in the room but there were no cups. Many were frustrated with the waiting time to handle any kind of issues with the front desk. With 14 floors and no telling how many rooms during a weekend conference the hotel manager only provided ONE receptionist. Several times we needed some tooth paste we had left at home, but there would be 5 or 6 people lined up waiting and I didn't have the 45 minutes to wait. This was not like the hotel I used to stay at. I don't know if its been sold but Oprah Winfrey would not be happy with the way its being run now. I don't know if this will ever be posted with the Google screening, but we will not be staying there anymore. The high price of the stay just isn't the special care it charges for.
Rooms could use updating. My king room had some issues, a/c wasn’t working well, fridge did not work at all, bed did not have fitted sheet, mattress was not comfy at all. The rooms could use a major updating for the price. Having to pay to park was a bummer.
We stayed here after the Auburn Kick Off event! The room was amazing and we had the best help getting all of our merchandise in and out of the hotel!! Antoine Longmire helped us pack up our cars as we were leaving and he was so very kind!
My expedited package, which was delivered to front desk, with my name and room number was sent to purchasing per procedures causing a 24 delay to recieve. What if this was a critical medication needed by a guest?
Our reservation for two double queen rooms was not honored because they were overbooked. The desk clerk said, “You can check you in tomorrow.” !??? We we’re traveling and only staying in Birmingham that night. They ended up putting us in a king and a double queen. My daughter and I had to share a bed in one room, while my husband and son were able to stay in a double queen in another room on the same floor. My husband’s room had a dirty towel in the shower curtain. My first room smelled like smoke. The phone in that room was broken. The front desk did manage to move me to another room on a different floor. This room smelled like mildew and poop, likely because the exhaust fan was broken. It also had mold in the shower. There was some sort of car convention going on, so we did not get any sleep due to the constant engine revving. The cars were parked right under our rooms. The deafening noise went on all night and early morning. I thought Hyatt hotel were supposed to be nice. This is the worst hotel I’ve been to in years.
Only downside was the breakfast. Although the food was good, it was more expensive than it should have been. Hotel food is always more expensive than outside independents, but $45 for breakfast for two? Nothing special, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bread and drinks.
Very clean. Liked the convience of everything right there. Staff was helpful and friendly. Loved the valet attendants (Cali) very personable. Never waited on my car and helped with my luggage. I was traveling alone and felt very safe at the Hyatt Regency!
The booking process for this was bad honestly. I booked through a third party reservation site, which I rightfully understood may have meant a need for secondary communication. What I was not prepared for was to do the work of the hotel. In all other experiences, the hotel and the reservation site communicate to ensure what was booked on the reservation would be the selection booked for the hotel. That was not the case in this instance and the ensuing collective 3 hour phone call between the reservation site, the hotel front desk and the sales office- including 40+ minute hold time with the hotel front desk- was awful and wasted what was supposed to be an easy, 15 min max conversation. The sales team especially worked to resolve issues and certain front desk staff also actually thought up ways to be of assistance versus others who essentially shrugged me off. The other issue was that, due to staffing, they did not service the rooms. They only service a stay every 4 days--I only stayed two. That meant no fresh towels in a room that had 2 women for 2 days. We had to ask for extras and those did not arrive until the evening of the last night. That said, the rooms were adequate, the parking staff were wonderful and I would book there again.
Went for a week convention, hotel was freezing air must have been at 60degrees! Horrible small thin scratchy towels. Lobby area so small there was not a place to sit and talk at all and there were 300 of us. Very stingy with toiletries and coffee for in room maker. Went to front desk 3 times to report a slow draining sink, no one ever came. Not the cleanest hotel.
The location is very convenient. The restaurant is great with a good variety of choices. Staff friendly overall.. great local shuttle. However, after you request to have your room cleaned, it still will not be cleaned.
