Thanks to my waitress, my order was pretty awesome! For those that are not aware, the rib sandwich, not a sandwich. My friend ordered it and was surprised upon food delivery. Their table "appetizer" is white sliced bread and BBQ sauce which is different...I didn't say great or better, but definitely different. I ordered the baked potato with boneless rib tips and it was fantastic. The Arnold Palmers here are great too! And the fried green tomatoes...wow. I've heard the banana pudding is fantastic too, but did not get to try it after that massive potato.
We ate here on our way down to Florida last week and the overall experience was excellent! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was fantastic, and the location can't be beat if you are staying downtown Birmingham. In addition to the excellent ribs that have become famous all over the South, would also recommend ordering the fried okra and the fried green tomatoes. If you are looking for some good BBQ ribs in a great location, you have to try this place!
My son ate here 20 years ago and recommended it but it has certainly changed since 2002. A rack of ribs is $25 and does not include any sides. The ribs were overcooked, dry and more bone than meat. Drinks are served in styrofoam cups and food on styrofoam plates with the cheapest plastic utensils. They don’t even have wet wipes, just a roll of brown paper towels on the table. Yuck! What a huge waste of money for a very bad experience. Eat anywhere else! So disappointing!
The ribs are outstanding! We love it here! The best service and yummy food! Excellent
Used to be so good. It was some of the most toughest meat I ever had. Not tender at all. Very hard to get off the bone and hard to chew. Never had this happen before and I will be reluctant to return.
food was good, but they only offer one sauce which was too spicy. The food wasn't much better than any of the other BBQ places i have visited. The atmosphere was great.
Whoa is me!!! I ate almost the whole rack of ribs...An dipping into that Dreamland sauce is insane good. Fried Okra an Fried Green Tomatoes were jus like Mama used ta make. Had to try the Bannana Pudding..although a little to cake like it was OK. Even got Two jars of the Dreamland Sause too to take home!!
We are from Houston, and when we take a road trip through Birmingham, we have to stop here to get some ribs! Staff is attentive, quick and friendly. Our server constantly checked in, refilled drinks. The food is to die for! We always get the ribs, and the Mac and Cheese is light and fluffy. Save room for some Banana Puddin’! Reasonably priced for amazing food. If you are in the area, give it a try!
I was craving some BBQ for lunch on Thursday (2/24) and I hadn't been to Dreamland in a while so I stopped by to pick up lunch for a co-worker and myself. I place two orders for a half rack of ribs, beans and slaw and took it back to the office and could not have been more disappointed. The beans and slaw were fine but the ribs were dry and tough to eat. The meat was terrible and they were really chewy and very tough and were not enjoyable at all.............and all this for over $40 Not a good experience
My husband and I are competition BBQers and we run a BBQ concession trailer as a hobby. We are BBQ snobs. We love to eat at BBQ joints when we travel. Although we loved the vibe of Dreamland in Birmingham, we were very disappointed in the ribs. They are cooked indoors over a really neat looking open pit, but ours were not cooked long enough by any stretch of the imagination. They were hard and chewy and NOT fall-off-the bone. I had the BBQ sandwich doc style and it was just OK. Although the restaurant smells of lovely smoke inside and out, the meat did not taste very smoky. Potato salad and fries were OK. Banana pudding was OK. BBQ sauce was thin and slightly bitter. Service at the bar was spectacular though! And the cold beer was great!
