I took my wife there for an intimate dinner but the building was very noisy. So noisy we couldn't even have a conversation. Big turn off. Not a romantic setting at all, at least on that night. The food was delicious, but very expensive and very small portions. I won't be back.
I am glad we tried it but won't be back. Food, service and drinks were excellent. However my wife and I both had entrees that included shrimp and there were specks of shrimp. The portions were small, nothing else on the plate but the fish I ordered. Just too expensive for what you get. Poor value.
There are lots of surprises on the menu at Automatic. The fried fish collar was a delight, with zingy pickled red onion and a zippy chili butter. Grilled oysters were outstanding. Complex and balanced. Make sure to get the rolls, because everything comes with a sauce and you’ll want to soak up every bit of sauce on any plate set before you.Our server was a delight, and so pleasant to talk to.We’ll be going back.
Our brunch was amazing! Great service and a really nice yet causal atmosphere. We’ll be back.
How can I put this D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!! ?delicious may be an understatement scrumptious, tasty, mouthwatering, Heavenly, divine MAYBE one of those words will do it justice. The JAMES BEARD award was definitely earned not given. The service was top notch Philip one of the waiters was highly recommended from another great spot ironwood by Alan. Philip wasn't our waiter but he checked In on us as much as our wonderful waitress did and that made the experience even better. The vibe was great and the restaurant is a little gem.
We heard about the James Beard award and made our reservations online. Wow. So good. We ordered appetizers, the yeast rolls (which reminded me of homemade pretzels and honestly would have loved it with some beer cheese, just sayin'), the octopus with black garlic, cooked oysters and the fried fish collar. Everything was delicious. The octopus was tender. The food was sweet and salty and acidic and spicy. For dinner we ordered fish and chips (we did have our teenagers with us), the vege plate, some kind of blackened fish with these beautiful mushrooms and the duck fat poached fish. Our waiter Justin took care of us very well and there were other staff always on hand to fill water glasses, clear plates and serve our food which came out so quickly throughout the meal. Again, it was all good. The amberjack was so good. We ordered a couple of drinks off the menu. Plus, we got to sit right near the kitchen, it was just like being at a chef's table. We tried all the desserts. My favorites were the peach cobbler with ginger ice cream and the strawberry and pistachio cake. The key lime pie was good, but I never met a key lime pie I didn't like. The corn creme brule did not do much for me. It had a very custardy-eggy flavor. I didn't taste the corn much at all. The last dessert was a chocolate and peanut butter dome thing. It was not at all what we expected and actually we all agreed tasted like one of those icky gluten free power bars. So that dish was definitely a miss for us... but... overall wow. Can't wait to come back again! Also... the dishes were so flavorful and juicy and saucy, I really wish they did serve a nice sourdough bread to dip in and soak up all those yummy fishy juices! The yeast rolls were quite salty and greasy (like you would expect from a pretzel, which the kids loved) but were not good fodder for a cleaned plate. We also ordered a side order of hush puppies.
Stopped here for what I was hoping would not be an atypical brunch and they exceeded my expectations. It was Sunday at 11am, prime brunch time, and we didn’t have a reservation. The host was gracious and sat us almost immediately, because there was a cancellation. The service from our two waiters was prompt & professional. Recommendations were not offered until i asked. The cappuccino was well made. From the brunch menu, I ordered the Tuna tartare with horseradish, chives & pommes allumettes, heirloom tomatoes (pictured) and seared swordfish with grits (pictured). The entrees balanced each other; the swordfish was flavorful without being masked by sugar or salt, and the creamy grits and fatty bacon were balanced by the acidity of the tomatoes. Plus, the tomatoes had a fun heat kick that lingered in the back of my throat. The tuna tartare was unlike anything I’ve ever had and was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was cubed, not ground. The ingredients were fresh and well plated, the restaurant was clean, airy and well staffed. The utensils & cups were on the lighter side and easy to handle. The menu is revolving based on local availability.
I just don’t get it. We still haven’t had a menu item worth returning for after 4 attempts over the past few years. Very limited wine by the glass offerings. Slow service this past Saturday for party of 8. AC worked almost too well as we could feel the blast against into our section against the wall ?
Great service and good food!
We came from Montgomery Alabama and realized we made brunch reservations and dinner was fully booked however the General Manager was onsite and was able to get us a dinner reservation and that’s just the start of the magic, the food was spectacular, the oysters were so fresh we could taste the water and the service was phenomenal as the last customers we was treated as if we were the first customers of the day and we was not rushed at all which was like a breath of fresh air
