Disappointed! Not at the restaurant, but at myself for not having done my research enough for an afternoon tea place. The food that are served for an afternoon tea comes as no surprise for me: typical choice of tea, a couple of scones with clotted cream, jam and marmelade, crustless finger sandwiches and a random assortment of bite-sized sweet pastries. I expected to get these and I got them. However, I was not expecting a cloth less table top. Perhaps, now is the time to upgrade the bread basket in which the scones are served, and use linen napkins instead. My expectation of having afternoon tea is having tea poured from silver/fine china tea pots into delicate bone china cups. I was expecting an elegant 3-tiered serving plates, and dazzling silver cutlery over a white linen table top. All these form part of THE meal for a very special occasion. We got none of that. This is a very small place with tables size not big enough to have an afternoon tea for 4 people.I have to give credit for service, which was not outstanding, but the average polite and courteous kind.Food was good and fresh, but nothing spectacular as these are just egg & mayo sandwiches with thinly sliced cucumber, regular scones and sweet pastries. There is just absolutely no way to get this wrong. Tea selection is average and can be bought at the local supermarket, with hot chocolate and caramel milk being just bland.
Honestly a gem of a place! The atmosphere is SO cozy and I love their scones!!! And they offer many dressings, all homemade, to go with the scones and they're delicious. Don't forget to reserve when you go as they can get quite busy.
Amazing service, delicious food and very welcoming atmosphere!! Lovely tea room it felt like I was in a small town in the UK. Will definitely be coming back :)
Fantastic! Warm and friendly service in cozy space, and last but definitely not least super tasty eats! Very happy to have finally been able to return.
From the moment you walk in the door you feel welcomed. The tea was delicious, the scones melted in my mouth and the chicken soup was the best I have ever eaten. The chicken pot pie, the salad; each bite was better than the next. Save room for dessert. There are no words. Everything was above and beyond and I can honestly say that the shortbread cookies were also the best I have ever tasted. This is truly Monkland’s finest treasure! Definitely a holiday must! Thank you Donna for this wonderful experience. I will be back soon!
Wonderful people and wonderful food! The High Tea is outstanding. Not our last visit. When we are in Montreal, we will visit them again. Thanks!
I don't have enough words to describe the good hearted souls that work here. Staff was super accommodating when we couldn't make our initial reservation due to an emergency and had a slot for us the next day. We enjoyed delicious tea and the finest baked goods. Absolutely fantastic place!
I would give this tea room 4.5 stars. The tea selection and quality is a little lacking compared to other similar tea rooms I've been to. The food, however, is fantastic, a great selection of spreads for scones a well constructed tea sandwiches and desserts. The service was also great.
Great scones/jams/custards- very nice people working there too. Please get on UberEats to make it easier to get your food.
I love the Gryphon! My wife and I don't live near downtown anymore, but we make a special trip just to go there from time to time. Such a friendly place with a great selection of teas, and delicious scones. Ask for an English tea platter and spoil yourself.
