The food was good until it wasn't. They had served me General Tso chicken that was very raw. The dough was still sticky and the chicken was pink inside. For the price of the meal, I had expected more. Also they just replaced the dish rather than offering a discount or refund, I had lost my appetite by then.
You may be like me, in thinking that this kind of Chinese food had long disappeared from the landscape. By that I mean perfectly prepared Szechuan/Cantonese of the North American variety, with an emphasis on impeccably fresh ingredients, served by truly professional waitstaff. You’ll find all of that here. A recent dinner was as good as I have found in Montreal in a long time. Highly recommended.
I want to start off with saying I walked a distance to get here. We were seated and it took about 10-15 minutes to get waters, which figuring they were busy, I was fine with. Then I ordered a beer and waited another 10 minutes to order, which fine no problem. But then I order something for me and my fiancé to share and the owners comes over telling me “it’s a 20 dollar minimum per person due to pandemic”. I explained we ordered a 30 something dollar meal and would have some drinks. She still seemed annoyed and said she would “make an exception this one time” and walked away. I have never been so insulted by a business I was excited to go try. I wish them the best, but my experience was awful. I would of been more receptive to them suggesting something or making a recommendation which I probably would of took and ordered.

Great location in Montreal so easy to get to. Just myself and a friend eat and managed to try a lot of dishes! All very tasty, fresh and good portion sizes. If we had stayed longer would 100% go back. Thanks Mrs Ma and team ! C
Exceptional Schechuan options, all fabulous. Best General Tao meal ever, truly. Never had larger juicier pieces of chicken with this exceptional light breading and piquant sauce. Seafood Paradise, crispy duck and calamari all excellent. Welcoming environment and ambiance. A place our group could converse without screaming over each other. Excellent service with the chef coming out to greet us. Easy parking. We will return for more for sure.
Outstanding experience and food. Welcomed like family as the owners described the dishes and told us about the restaurant’s history. Couldn’t recommend more to anyone looking for quality Chinese food.
Been too many Chinese restaurants in MTL, this place is by miles the best. Super delicious food and lovely service. Super recommend. Will definitely go back again.
It was my first time at Mr Ma Szechuan and it was such a wholesome experience. The food was absolutely incredible! Best general tao I’ve ever had! The service was the best I’ve ever had in my life! The staff was so friendly and kind, it made the experience that much more perfect. I would give it 10 stars if I could, highly recommend!
