Great place in old Port area of Montreal. We stopped by for a few drinks and a snack. Just like most places the atmosphere is very european with great service and good food. We were there early but it looks like a great late night spot.
I enjoyed my visit to Santos despite the steep prices. A friend and I decided to check it out on a whim, they sat us at a table until the 9pm reservation showed. The food and drinks are overpriced, but that’s par for the course in the Old Port. We had calamari and meatballs, which were tasty but came in comically small portions. The drinks were great, in particular the Pura Vida was one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed the music and ambiance and I’d love to check it out again when it becomes a club later on in the night. The staff was pleasant and accommodating to us.
Food portions are extremely small for the prices, and the service is 1 star. Ambiance was nice but thats it. No one came to fill our waters despite asking, the waiters seemed to stay behind the mostly empty bar on their phones the whole time, they were not friendly compared to other bars waiters in the area. It wasn't busy at all but we still felt rushed - one time someone came by our table to ask if we ordered more food or if we're leaving. We had one plate of tacos (2 tacos), beef on a skewer with a few potato wedges, and 2 beers. Total came to about $85 which was not worth the portion of food we ate. We left a tip of an extra $10 which we felt was more than decent for the service we received. After we paid and got ready to leave, one of the waiters (which did not give the bill) comes to us and says sir there is actually a requirement minimum of 15% tip. What? So we were... $2 short of the "requirement" apparently.... very weird to stop us before leaving the restaurant to ask us for an extra $2. If that is the case for them to tell us how much tip they think they deserve, then maybe they should add the gratuity automatically to the bill at the end..? I've never experienced service like this. Very weird to stop me before leaving, it left me very confused. I will not be returning, there are much much better bars and restaurants in Old Montreal with better food and friendly service, just go elsewhere.
Honestly, worst service I have ever experienced. We had a nice waitress and she is definitely not to blame but we waited easily an hour to get some of our plates, which ended up being mediocre at best. We were forced to use coat check although it seemed like everyone else had their coats with them at their table. When asked I asked the manager, he told me it’s because they didn’t have reservations and were leaving by 9. Also, because we were a group of 7, we were forced to choose a menu of 60$/person. Kinda ridiculous when some people didn’t have the appetite for 60$ worth of food. Not to mention that the food we received was definitely not worth 60$. Everything was overpriced.I would not recommend this place for dining. However, the music was good and upbeat, seems like a good place for drinks and dancing
Had high expectations for this place. However, was quite disappointed. Had spoken to them on the phone before attending and was told that we could choose our own dishes despite them proposing the $60 per person group menu. Upon entering we were forced to pay a coat check; however, all other guests seemed to have their coats at their tables. Their reasoning for it didn’t make much sense, but we went with it. We were then forced to accept their group menu despite multiple members of our group not wanting to eat for that amount of food. We felt quite out of place, since we were not regulars which seemed to have preferential over others. It took us 52 minutes to receive our main course and if it wasn’t for our waitress who took our dishes which were about to be given to another table we would’ve been waited longer. We were grateful for our waitress; however, the manager seemed to not really care for the situation and admitted to know we didn’t receive acceptable service but only offered us “shots” or “a bottle” to make up for it. This place is not worth your time or money and I think you should choose elsewhere and avoid it if you can.
RUDE STAFF. TOTAL INCOMPETENCE.Worst dining experience of my life. The service was awful; not once did the wait staff check on us or bring us water (we asked multiple times) and on top of that, we were still waiting for food when we got yelled at for not giving up our chairs. Completely discombobulated between wait staff and kitchen. Then let’s talk about the prices: on a fixed menu, I got charged 60$ for: 4 chips, 2 cubes of potato, 1 meatball, 1 scallop, 1 slice of bread with a tiny piece of cheese and 1 slice of salami, and 1 taco. The menu was never divulged before our dinner but man was every single person starving. Avoid at all costs.By the way, the food below was to be shared by THREE PEOPLE.
Probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a bar/club. The two stars is solely for the super helpful manager who accommodated us despite us not having a reservation. But everything else about our experience here was less than satisfactory. The drinks were ridiculously overpriced and lacked quality and the music was alright. Although service was slow even when we were seated the waitress was super sweet and one of the bartenders was also pleasant. But the turning point for us was one EXTREMELY rude bartender. As we were waiting by the bar to order our drinks we saw her take a shot and the approach us with a negative attitude. Then she proceeded to say my order of a vodka soda, vodka cranberry and two shots of tequila was “too confusing”. These four drinks came out to be $78 and as I turned to walk away she called me back rudely and yelled saying that we had not tipped her enough, snatched $10 out of my hand and told us that she would have to get the manager to escort us out if we don’t tip her more. As someone who worked in the service industry for many, many years, I believe that a gratuity should be earned. We tipped both the waitress and pleasant bartender very well but her attitude did not deserve any tip whatsoever, yet she still quite literally snatched money out of my hand. Please save your money and time and avoid a trip here.
Won't lie, not cheap, but nowhere is nowadays. The food was delicious. I had the shrimp tacos and they were perfect. My husband had the paella and the seafood to rice ratio was good. The drinks were amazing, the music was great. I had a lot of fun there. I'd go back for sure.
Wonderful manager who thankfully accommodated our group. Horrible bartender who had the audacity to complain our tip was not enough but still snatched the cash and threatened to have us escorted out. 2 stars only for the manager's great service, good chips + dip, music. removing 2 stars for the bartenders horrible attitude that made us immediately leave.
Stella was the BEST waitress ever! came for my 21st bday and would come back anytimeeeee <3. we love stella!!!!
