THOSE FRIES! Opened the rooftop here the other day (was still hot enough that no one had braved it yet so we got the corner seats), by the time we left it was full. Deservedly so. From delicious tastes of two veggie dishes to share (the curry! so good) to fun cocktails/mocktails that make it hard to pick which one to order, to the impossibly tangy fries that fermenting the potatoes first somehow makes the end product taste like just the right amount of vinegar is cooked in without the sogginess vinegar adds?!? Many folks were enjoying the $3 small beers good cheap drink on a hot day. Great escape in the Chinatown area.
We had a drink and dinner at Poincaré. The terrasse is a rooftop with a nice sightseeing over Chinatown. We ordered a nature wine that was very good and fresh. To suit this bottle, we had pétoncles and a veggy burger as food. Both plate were tasty and very well cooked. They added a flower to one of the plate, the taste was quite surprising!Prices were ok and the service was efficient. So, overall we had a great experience at Poincaré !
Stumbled on this place exploring Chinatown. This place had great food and drink pictures on Maps so wanted to give it a try.I really love that we can go on the rooftop. The aesthetics are really retro lowkey jazz as well ❤️ .Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2Food/Drink: ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2 we wish we could try the good they look delicious, this point will be reviewed after tryingAmbiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Price: $$ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Location: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
They have a pretty good terrace that overlooks the downtown area but it closes when it rains. The drinks are very good and well made. The food is a little expensive considering the small portions but it was pretty tasty. I would recommend coming here for late night drinks after a good dinner.
I went with my brother at around 10pm on a Thursday. We were very hungry and tired and by the time we got to Chinatown, our usual restaurants of choice were all closing, so we decided to try something new.First, we waited an extremely long time before anyone even acknowledged our presence. Then, we had to wait forever until we were sat down. Even then, the server just left us with no menu and no water for so long that my brother had to get up and seek someone to ask for them. The food also took longer than expected to come, but that I can understand. Now, let’s talk about the food. We ordered burgers and fries but the fries were sour and way too salty, and the burger was plain and seemed to have a weird wasabi-like sauce which didn’t work well with the other flavours at all. The portions were also quite small for the price. The burger was at least edible, but we couldn’t even finish the small portion of fries because they tasted just that disgusting. After this, we just went to eat at McDonald’s which I now feel like we should’ve done in the first place. We had horrible experience, and I personally wouldn’t come back. Very disappointed, especially after seeing all those good reviews on google. Unfortunately we were so eager to start eating we forgot to take pictures, but thanks to the presentation, the food looked alright until we put it in our mouths.
I hate to give a restaurant a bad review but unfortunately the service was really bad. Took us 20 minutes to be able to order, and finally when our food came, the drinks didn't come. Actually the drinks never came. It took us a really long time to get the waitresses attention (we actually finished our food) before we were able to ask what happened to the drinks. Then when asking for the bill, we asked for just one. But then two bills were brought to us.The atmosphere however was very nice. It was a good vibe to sit on the roof and enjoy the sun. And the food was interesting and fun to try!
Drinks and wine selection was great, food was very "hit or miss" and ended up missing more often. They were understaffed too, soo made the whole service slow (kinda is the reality everywhere).Would return for a quick bite for 2 specific plates, but not an evening and big eat out.
Great drinks, had their non-vegi burger and fermented fries. The burger is simple with very few toppings and works perfectly like that. The fermented fries were a bit sour, as expected, might not be something everyone enjoys, but I really liked them. A great place overall!
Honestly-extremely overpriced for what you get. Small portions, not great food- what burger and fry establishment doesn't have ketchup. I'm pretty astonished. We should have gone to the grocery store downstairs to put together a better meal than what we recieved.Edited, reply:Thankyou for the review, that's a very well thought out response and I appreciate it. I still do think the prices are far too high for the portions given but I do appreciate your want for farm-to-table.
Quite the culinary experience. Known for their beer selection, I was surprised they offered such delicious food. Everything was homemade from the pickles to the lactofermented fries. However i found it dissuading that they offered so few wines by the glass which really limited our experience.
