The veggies are the cheapest in town, on average. Especially the ones you'd use in Asian cooking like scallions and cilantro. Much more suited to Asian cooking than other supermarkets.A problem is that Tofu always goes bad a month or so before the best before date (unopened). I don't know if it's a storage or transportation problem, but shouldn't be on my end since I always put them in insulated bags with ice packs. If it's like two weeks before best before date, no need to check, just throw it in the garbage. You'll spare yourself from some bad smell. This doesn't stop me from buying tofu, but definitely something to keep in mind. They have a huge variety of instant and frozen food, including but not limited to dumplings, cold noodles, etc. But most of them are a bit expensive, but still cheaper than takeout. Some stuff like cold noodles is 10$+ per pack (of two) (I mean 5$ each is A LOT more expensive than instant noodles which average to 1-2$ each even for the most expensive ones, but MUCH less expensive than any food at a restaurant, and you only need to boil some water and chop a cucumber) and I didn't find any cheaper elsewhere. But I did find cheaper dumplings at costco, although as always not much variety but still decent taste.
Overall, Kim Phat is a great place to get your asian essentials. They have a wide selection of imported goods, as eell as a butcher and fishmonger. Problem is the place is a friggin mess and the fish REALLY stinks the place up. It's no big deal for mez but it will put many people off.A big upside is their bakery. They have fresh baguettes for banh-mis, chinese donuts, other savoury breads, as wrll as a Vua stand where they make banh-mis and bubble teas. They also have a bunch of prepared meals, like char siu, peking duck, imperial rolls and a bunch of sides and other desserts. So yeah, minus the mess and the smell of the fish, it's got a lot going for it. Go there.
You can find lots of stuff there if your intense about cooking Asian food with traditional recipes. I didn't appreciate the lights going out when they were 10 minutes from closing time.
June 2022 updateOne of the biggest east end ( Montreal north) Asian supermarkets. Plenty of parking on both east and west sides. They offer plenty but you get best bargain with what’s on special. So do check out their flyer. Usually right next to cashier, there are a few bins/ counters with the best fresh produce sales. Always grab a few before they run out.Not crazy about their frozen section. They do have whole roast duck. However since they raised their price to $27,99. It simply just overpriced. They also have a bakery section. But not everything is available all the time.Overall , good choice of Asian products and fresh produce. But consistency is not their forte So expect to get the same thing every time. But if you like surprises, well, have fun !!! Do watch out for their prices tho. They are not always the best value all the time. Compare.
La carne tiene buen precio y encuentras productos que no hay en otros lugares.
The place is fairly clean and you can have a variety of fruits/veggies/snacks/fresh meat. You can also find your favourite asian snacks, condiments and spices. If you have never been there, it’s a definite must-go! You will find everything on your list and it won’t be too expensive either. I recommend!
Very crowded on weekends, not exactly covid friendly. Things get pretty messy amd the layout is awkward. Good product variety and produce is good quality as well.
This place is great. You'll find a lot of fruits and vegetables at a good price. But be carefull some vegetables are not 100% fresh. The last time I went, the cucumbers were so soft that they could be crushed between my fingers ?
Nice grocery. Value for money. Cashiers sympatic and smiling. But the butchers are rude. Maybe there should be 1 person there for customer care that can at least speak and understand French and English.
Nice store, big variety of items from different places in the world. Nice fish shop and nice quality. Little cramped in some places though. Really good grocery store overall
