Update: I have to change my review to one star as yesterday we went for the second time, and had food poisoning after. We ate the smoked meat on a club roll. Mon chum is the most sick, severely ill and vomitting. We called in and instead of asking for our number and informing the staff or manager immediately, we were asked to call back tomorrow when several other people could be eating the smoked meat before then. Such an irresponsible protocol for a serious matter.Original: Friendly wait staff and a nice nostalgic feel to the diner. The food wasn't the best, not my favorite gravy on the poutine (I had to add salt and pepper) and my burger patty didn't taste very great compared to other casse-croute style burgers. Good place to bring out of towners for a Montreal dining experience if you're spending the day on the Saint-Hubert strip.
Textbook classic Montreal diner. I'd urge tourists to stray away from downtown to find places like this if they want a real taste of Montreal cuisine. I've only lived here a short while but I know what a classic Montreal menu looks like and this is it. Service is effective and friendly. Portions are not shy either like a good diner does it.
Hubby was craving a smoked meat sandwich and it was well worth the find! We ordered one Smoked Meat Sandwich medium grease a small poutine and one souvlaki platter with two chicken skewers. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and the chicken skewers very nice, flavorful and tender. You can see I shared the platter with my child and there was still more then enough left over. Poutine was good, not salty, and has a hint of clove (I think) so a different taste to the gravy then most places, but good. Will be back.
Happened to pass by this place in December and was intrigued by the name. The inside decor/ambience is old-school diner (in a good way); very few places like this remaining in Montreal! Menu seems quite extensive; I would suggest taking any of their smoked meat preparations. I tried the "special" pizza which is all-dressed with smoked meat; it was fabulous! It reminded me of how pizzas used to be taste like in Montreal in my childhood. I would definitely com back to try a smoked meat sandwich; I wouldn't say they have the best smoked meat in town, but it's definitely up there in the top 5. Also, I found the prices slightly on the pricey side for what it is, but that could simply be due to location...
Meh - service wasn’t overtly rude/mean but could tell the other reviews were not lyingSandwich was bland/unremarkable, definitely low end of all delis like this I’ve trieddidn’t try anything else
I love the retro style this restaurant has.Not a long wait and the trio smoke meat sandwich was amazing... but the fries had no salt and we're kinda cold.(FROE LICH RATINGS )FOOD: 8.0STAFF : 8.0APPEARANCE: 8.5DEALS: 7.5OVERALL (8.0)VIDEO REVIEW SOONON @Froe lich
I think this is the best place for smoked meat. Everything I've had there was very good. Except their fries.
Great service and no problem for the QR . The food is always good and pleasant to eat. The atmosphere is convivial. The smoke meat is great the french fries perfect.
Very tender, almost buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cuts of lean smoked meat awaits you at le Roi du Smoked Meat -which has reigned over plaza St-Hubert in Montréal for over 60 years. Many menu items, which can also include their signature meat, can be explored as well as wonderfully tasty side dishes.
Got food poisoning , the cook looked liked a homeless didint use glovesIm not the kind of person to complaint but If I can spare this to anyone im glad I did
