I dined by myself at the bar and had a lovely experience. The bartender, Mike was very knowledgeable about the menu and although he was quite busy making drinks at the same time, he made sure that I always had fresh plates, silverware and wine with each course.I had the spot prawns and scallops (specials), a couple oysters, the bone marrow terrine custard and the bone-in veal chop with a side of asparagus. I noticed that most dishes include heavy cream sauces, and because that preparation tends to be too rich for me, I asked for them to be served on the side. I didn’t realize that the prawns would be covered so heavily with pesto, otherwise that would have been better on the side as well as the prawns were lost in it. The custard and veal chop were standouts. The evening wasn’t inexpensive, but worth it - with the exception of $22 for five asparagus spears and cream sauce, which I thought was extreme.Overall, I had a wonderful time, delicious meal and will visit again when I return to Montréal.

My expectations for this restaurant were quite high and overall I think it was a great experience. What stood out to me were the oysters and the pate. The oysters were incredibly fresh and only lasted a minute or so on our table. The pate was also great but I wish the consistency was a bit more spreadable. I also want to mention the bread that came as a side for the tartare and pate… it was phenomenal.I do have to mention that the flavours for the lobster pasta were very unique. It tasted like a coconut cream sauce with a very unique spice that I wasn’t able to distinguish. Definitely give it a try if you’re feeling spontaneous. Would I order that dish again? Probably not.Lastly, the service. I didn’t catch her name but our server was incredibly witty and had a great sense of humour.

I finally had a chance to check this place out after hearing so much good things about it. Let me just say, it was worth the hype! The veal “old TV” style was very unique, perfectly cooked medium rare, and the sauce was delicious! This place is definitely a bit more on the expensive side, but you do get what you pay for. Great food, great service, great drinks as well! I would definitely come back in the future for another meal, so much more on the menu to try.

Joe Beef has been one of our bucket list dining desires for years, Being from Texas and seeing how difficult a reservation can be we never thought it could become a reality. But dreams do come true . We had a most remarkable evening. Our expert and professional server, Helen, guided us through the menu and specials board. We of course wanted to try everything. Her suggestions were perfect and we had a magical meal. When she was helping others the ever present Vincent was always near and helpful. You rarely see this kind of old world service anymore. So many other staff stopped by to welcome the Texans to Montreal and Joe Beef’s. Thank you all ( y’all ) for an evening we will never forget.

Good but not spectacular. We were lucky enought to get reservations here on our visit to Montreal. Unfortunately it was a heat wave and we were seated outside in 33+degree weather. It did not seem much cooler inside with just a few fans blowing. This places is charming and old and doesn't seem to have air conditioning.Service was good. Food was good. Big portions and better to go with more people so that you can share. Lobster Spaghetti was over hyped. But very expensive. Good for a one time experience but doubtful I will return again.

This restaurant has been on my bucket list for quite some time, and as Covid restrictions were lifted, made a reservation for our group to enjoy what was supposed to be an exceptional experience( per client reviews) . If you are looking for selection and choices, this is not the restaurant to go to. Main menu has about 4 main course dishes. Yes, they have a chalk board which I imagine changes occasionally. In our party of 4, 2 of us ordered steak au poivre ( chalkboard option), 1 person ordered chicken fricassée , and I person ordered fish soup ( lotte en bouillabaisse) . So both steaks were incredibly fatty and nervy ( not bad for $80 each steak , right? ) , the chicken was good , was it worth the $39 - not convinced… and well , the fish soup, left much to be desired . Appetizers were ok , but if you plan on sharing, think twice, portions are small. Incredibly disappointed in the experience, especially since I promoted this restaurant to my group weeks before our reservation. So conclusion, $500 restaurant bill, with 4 incredibly unsatisfied customers . What a shame that a restaurant of this calibre didn’t get it right .

This was a splurge trip for my husband & I so we went all out. We indulged in a great bottle of wine that the waitress recommended as well as the langoustine special, also recommended. We saw everyone ordering the fries so we had those as well, so good! We got the lobster pasta & it was so so good. We also got the 20 layer cake, very good. Our reservation was at 8:30 pm and they had just switched the music up & it was late 90's hip hop/pop music which we LOVED! Such a fun atmosphere. It felt like we were dining and partying in our grandmother's kitchen. So worth the visit!! If you can secure a reservation this is a must

Our first time at Joe Beef was 2 years ago and it was amazing. This time around would be our last one.Service was amazing! The staff go above and beyond to please you, but the food is meh..We ordered the smoked salmon(30) and the lobster salad ($48) which was mostly lettuce. The horse steak and another steak with foie gras and truffle, waaay too salty that I couldn't finish! Fries were very salty as well. I love salty foods but this was too much!Their apple pie was delicious though! I think it is overpriced personally, the first time around was good, but this time I regretted going.

Food was absolutely amazing. Server was helpful with translating. We didn't get in until 40 minutes after our reservation time but it was worth the wait. Will be back again. Also all the desserts were gluten free which was great for my celiac friends and myself.

I don't understand the hype about this place. My steak was burnt and extremely salty. The presentation is awful, food was generally flavourless. $42 for a hamburger steak, $90 for a regular one. Montreal has amazing restaurants, this isn't one of them.
