Fantastic service, food and portions albeit a little pricey. Perfect place for a special occasion or a nice meal on holiday
My wife and I were with a travel group, and supposedly Gibbys was a plan b according to our tour host, so I was prepared to have a decent meal, but nothing exceptional. The atmosphere is fantastic. The service is superb. And the food might be the best I've ever had. Their salad with house dressing is sensational. My swordfish was the best I've ever had, and their twice-baked potato was delicious. My wife had the filet mignon kabob, and couldn't stop raving about it. We both had the cheesecake, which was the best we've ever experience. The only downside was, as we were heading off on an 7-night cruise, no matter how good the food was on the ship, nothing could compared to Gibbys. Yes, the place is expensive, and our meals were pre-paid, but I highly recommend the Gibbys experience.
Had a lovely meal and of course it came with a ridiculous pricetag. I don't really think it was worth it in the end. Very good steaks. Nice salad. A nice little lime palate cleanser in between. Extensive wine list--we had a lovely $140 Roger Perrin Chateauneuf-du-pape. Desert was nothing special, especially compared to the magnificent desert we had at Liverpool House. Our waitress was incredibly busy--they seem to be short staffed, but still managed to spend a lot of time talking to customers, enough that it got in the way of her service. They used the excuse that they were short-staffed to explain a lot of things. For example they only had four beers, nothing on tap--Corona, Bud, Bud Light and Stella. Seriously? Every other restaurant, many of them vastly cheaper, we hit in Montreal while there had an array of local beers available. So odd. Right smack next to Old Montreal near the water in a historic building.
We were 5 people for dinner on Friday at 5:15. Four of us got sick. We called the next day but we’re told the person responsible would call back when he starts his shift at 3. That did not happen. Three days later I happen to walk by so I stepped in to find the manager enjoying a cup of coffee. He said he got the message but had been too tired to call back! He also said that the four of us probably experienced an INTOLERANCE to the salad dressing! Expert diagnosis! No apology , non taking of responsibility! He took my phone number and said someone would call. That has not happened. We will be enjoying future occasions elsewhere. Disappointing customer care.
I see the most recent review says that Gibby's is "Expensive". NO, it is not. It's all about what you are getting for your money. Gibby's gives you everything. Ambience (the building is over three hundred years old). Outstanding service (everyone speaks French and English). For what I pay for the world's greatest steak at Peter Luger in New York, not only was I served a spectacular steak, but it included a salad, asparagus and a baked potato. Let's not forget the surprise sorbet between the salad and main course to cleanse your palate. Even the bread was outstanding. If you are in Montreal and want an outstanding meal, go to Gibby's.
Rib steak simply amazing!! Really nice atmosphere.
Not sure why this was so busy, Maybe because Moishes is down for now. I ordered a 12 oz fillet, Med/Rare was done correctly, and good Wife ordered the crusted lamb.. Medium Rare.. came well done. (She ate it.. she is old school and likes grey meat.. I would have sent it back or fed it to the dogs) Gibby's House salad was poor.. lots of old lettuce . Service was fine, Atmosphere was nice. Food ok.. but nothing worth the money. Go to Moishes when they remodel...
This is a very good steakhouse that thrives on the tourist/business crowds visiting Montreal...with 500 tables between 3 levels this restaurant is not necessarily a great location for an intimate quiet meal with a loved one. WTS, the steak was quite good, although the accompanying foods - rice pilaf, baked potatoes asparagus, etc. were a but tired and obviously made in bulk. It is a great place for a large family meal or a business group. A fine selections of wines is available to meet all price ranges. Excellent well trained staff will wait on your every need. This place is certainly a money maker...turning tables 2-3 times a night. They do have good service figured out, albeit on a large scale
The food is always consistent.Best service in town. It’s great that life is back to normal. See you soon Gibbys!!
If you're planning to visit, make sure to make a reservation as it is extremely busy here and always full. The French onion soup was super flavourful and made us tempted to order a second after the spoonful.Service was super attentive and always dropped by to check on us to make sure everything was great.
